This game has popped up for sale here before but I never went to get it. Now it's sitting on a curb for free a half hour away from me apparently. I'm stuck home since my wife is in the hospital and I've got the kids.

Ok, I could load them up and go get it. But what is it? There's no pics and I haven't found any references to it as an arcade game.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot I that I posed this question once before and never got an answer really.

Probably a bootleg of Asteroids or Space Invaders. Still, unique boot cabs are among the coolest. I say go for it, may be the last remaining example, shame if it got smashed.

I just saw that post a little bit ago, no way I'm driving that far to pick up a no name game that's sitting on the porch in the rain though. The thing I hate is when someone puts something up for free, they won't take the ad down or even tell you when its gone. I drove all the way across town to pick up some computer parts, I even talked to the jerk and told him that I'm not a flake and was on my way. I arrived to find all the stuff gone, he actually handed the stuff to someone else knowing it wasn't me. Needless to say I was pissed, that night he had some $250 iPads and a free riding lawn mower posted on Craigs!

I went ahead and grabbed it after all. Have been at the hospital since then so haven't had a chance to investigate. The back is locked so I'll need to wedge it open to see much. I looked through the coin door and can see that the monitor has the chassis mounted separately on the side of the cabinet and I can see the pcb but couldn't get any detail yet. So here's some pics in the mean time:

Ugh, flickr won't let me show these in the post. Anyone know how? If I can't figure it out in a moment I'll just reduce the photo size and load them on here directly. Here's the link until then:

Here's some pics for those who don't like to link to another site for them. Interesting Star Wars rip-off. When I talked to the guy a long time ago he said there were Tie Fighters on it. I kept trying to nail him down on more info but he couldn't tell me anything really.

The cab is actually very straight (and light) with no water damage or anything. He was thoughtful enough to have it covered in a tarp which is good since it's been raining. I almost picked it up last time when he had it advertised for $50 but with no pics and a busy life I just never did.

So here it is....now I have another project I guess. At least it's interesting.

It is a unique cab design, I wonder what game is inside. Good thing is you can make the cab whatever you want, or keep it as whatever it holds in there.

I would guess galaxian/galaga ripoff or space invaders ripoff..

Looks like it from the control panel.

Did you see a company name on the bezel or marquee? Was the tie fighter part of the missing sideart?

You gotta love Star Wars ripoff games!

Wasn't there an Astro Attack game for the Intellivision, back in the day?

edit: maybe I'm thinking of Astrosmash....

I actually got it going late last night. One of the circuit boards wasn't seated in the edge connector properly and then the vertical hold needed adjusting but then it popped right in. Not a game I've ever seen before. The marquee is interesting. Each letter has a separate bulb and they alternate turning on and off randomly making a kinda cool effect. I'll try to get some video or something later today if I have time.

Is it a clone of another game?.....or original?

You could get "blinker" bulbs back in the day that would do this. Lots of cabarets use small bulbs for their marquee lighting, and every once in awhile you'll see someone here ask why their sign is blinking...

Cool!....when you post screen shots......a shot of the motherboard would be interestiing to see, too.

Edward

Will do. It may take me a bit since I think my wife may be coming home from the hospital today (she's fine) so I'll be pretty busy with things and may go back to work later.

Glad someone here was able to snag it, I was interested in seeing what exactly it was. I'm loving that "fire" button, it looks like the aftermarket horn button I see hacked on old forklifts! Post up more pics when you get a chance.
