I use Kester 44 0.031" 63/37 for most arcade-related work. I have thinner solder for SMT work and thicker stuff for filter caps etc., but I think 0.031" is the ideal size for most thru-hole PCB repairs.
Lead solder is readily available in Canada. You can buy it at The Source (formerly Radio Shack) but they only sell small spools I think. Yes, lead solder is still easy enough to find here in Canada.
Sometime you are lucky and can find the smaller stuff at Home Depot or Canadian Tire. If all else fails, Digikey always carries 60/40 solder, but any electronics store near you should carry it. Better to get the 1 lbs roll as others have suggested.
