I picked it up on eBay at a reasonable price. I was really psyched originally because I love Rastan. I get the cab home and start going over it. It has some crazy water damage all around. Even the top back panel.

I've started taking everything out, and they just pasted the Rastan Marquee over the old Elevator Action marquee.

I'm definitely going to be re-stenciling this cabinet. I love rastan, but at the same time wonder if I shouldn't just make it an elevator action, or a jungle king. I like jungle king, and have never really played elevator action.

What control panel do I have here?

Any thoughts or input?

kill it if it has water damage.. why waste time with a bad base.. Pay extra and find something better. EA is a $300-$500 game.

What's the story on these for water damage?
It isn't completely awful, but it's some edges all around the cabinet.
I've been able to sand slight water damage before and get it back to normal. The water damaged edges here don't seem like they'll be paintable at all.

Buy yourself a multi-taito pcb. The games are all pretty accurate except for Elevator action having some sound issues.

you got exact layout for elevator action.just try searching klov database of games.
:)

i'd second the multi-Taito suggestion, especially if you want to do a "quick and dirty" repair job.

if you do you might want to look for a CP that's already been set up for 2 joysticks and more buttons; no multi-Taito is complete without 2-player Bubble Bobble.

save the Taito cab, sand, bondo, stencil, etc. and either make it an EA,JK,JH or any other Taito classics you like

Throw it back in the lake as it's obvious that's where it came from. LOL

Seriously though look at Phet's Taito rstoration thread. If i recall he had same issue as you. This was same issue that caused me to part out the Jungle King last year.

I have heard that taito cabs swell up if a guy sweats in the same room with it.

Yeah I used an orbital sander locked and loaded with 40 grit sand paper. After the 40 I used 80, then 120, then 220. I used a 2 foot square to reach plumb and then used Minnwax wood hardener to seal the deal.

Phet... question:

It appears the Taito cabs are held together with bolts, etc.. Those bolts have to be removed to paint. I am guessing you completely gutted your cab prior to painting? I can't imagine I could do one side at a time like I did with my Nintendo cabs and still leave the monitor, etc in?

I always gut my cabs before restoring them, you really should to make sure everything is clean anyway. Lots of nooks and crannies that can hold dust, shit, coins, urine, ciggy butts, dead things, you name it. With the Taitos, I leave the top bolts in to hold the cab together, but remove all others.
