What Should I Do with this Japanese Galaxian Machine?

What should I do with this machine? I'd like to make some room.

The good: It's Japanese-style Galaxian machine that's 100% working, monitor, controls, gameplay, sounds all top notch. It's in a cool, small design for a machine too, very Nintendo.

The bad(?): It's a bootleg (?) board and, aside from the 'Hi Galaxian Part II' card under the top glass, I can find no info about it on the 'tubes. It has minor cosmetic flaws, like the wear on the CPOs, the black underlay could be replaced because of bubbling, and a clip is missing from the top glass. Also, it's Galaxian, which is not my type of game.

I doubt I can find a buyer for a game like this, since it's so weird. So what should I do with this unloveable little guy? Part it out? Convert it? Try to sell/trade it anyway? (San Francisco area, BTW)

Just wanted to get the community's advice!

Bonus: Video of the machine in action:

thats cool man i wouldnt mess with it if its working.. if the boardset ever goes south well then you have some decisions to make.

Those cocktails sell in the Midwest as I have sold several. My recommendation would be to keep it to play or selling it. I have seen Pleides, Phoenix, SI, SI2, and numerous other games in that or very similar CT cabinets.

Looks awesome to me. I think you underestimate the number of ppl that would buy that :)

Wow, I am surprised about the positive responses, good to know that these Japanese cocktail cabs aren't as undesirable as I thought. I even have some offers in my inbox (kjeffery, you are first in line, will get back to you shortly).

I guess I was thrown off when I saw how awesome the Midway version is with its crazy control scheme. Figured everyone would just want that!

I'm going to look for Taito evidence, too -- those Taito machines licensed from Atari are awesome.

It's taito cab for sure as I have three just like it

Taito cabinets have Taito logos in the wood grain pattern in a line to the left of the 1P control panel, and don't have the speaker holes/vents on the 1P side.

Taito cabs also had flat, wider "feet" rails. They'll also have panels inside on the right with test switches, tilt switches, and a power supply cage.

The locks on Taito cabs are also on the front, not the sides of the cabinet.

as he has stated, this is very much a Galaxian bootleg

the previous owner (before Samuel) put in a iL 4 way (used in the slotted 2 way) joystick and microswitched happ type buttons.
It's still his, I'm just doing some work for him on it.

You want to see a Galaxian bootleg? Here is one that was converted to play Big Kong, and was obviously in a fire too:

After I cleaned it up and replaced a shattered ceramic capacitor.

I did a bunch of other things and have it working pretty good, but I want to replace the joystick.

I've got a "Pac-Man on Galaxian hardware" bootleg board that looks almost identical to that (the one PrarieDillo posted, not Tighe's Big Kong. Mine has an extra daughterboard to add a few more ROM's though) Neither one looks like a real Galaxian board. I assume they made those bootleg boards so small so they fit in these style cocktails.

Man these 80s bootleg boards are fun stuff! Especially with hacks added.
