How much would you ask for a pristine original Death Race these days?

The question is prompted by a DR popping up on FB but I'm not asking about that one, I mean an actual pristine one.

@braddw, they did list it in the Bronze Age forum so its the right audience. Just wondering if people are paying that much for any game in this market.

The market is soft. But that's still a hard title due to the infamy of the title (people demanding the games be destroyed, some games were actually destroyed because it was "too violent."

Now we have Mortal Combat where you rip an opponent's spine out. Meh.

I'd say if it's in great shape, it could draw $5K from someone who REALLY wants one. Maybe more.

Four years ago, you might've had a dumbass that would pay the 11K for the one on FB. These days? Even if it's technically 'worth it', no one's paying even 5K for it. The past 2 years, I have seen better games at lower prices sit indefinitely. Unless there's a *actual* arcade museum specifically looking for this piece as the centerpiece to their BA collection ATM, I doubt there will be any interest. That being said it's a great title and one of the most complete art packages ever assembled. Now that I've given my feelings on the subject, I'm sure someone will BIN just to spite me.

I wouldn't sell mine for that amount. ($5K) All original, good condition and WATW.
But if someone offers $11k or more, we can talk. :p

that dude in DeKalb is a joke and always posts his garbage machines for 5x the value. Then they never sell and he doesn't compromise. Don't use anything he does as a price guide to anything.

I don't think prices are soft for rare collectors' favorites, so $5k still seems reasonable to me.... But I've never bought/sold one so don't trust me.

Is that DeKalb, Illinois?

And is this the Star Worlds guy?

Or is there someone else I should try to meet in the future?

yep

yep that's one of the 2 star worlds guys. not sure why you'd want to meet him. he's not friendly, seems to hate arcade games and collectors, yet has shipping containers full of games rotting away that he won't sell because he thinks they're worth millions and then is mad when they're not.
Also, I'd personally rate star worlds as the worst arcade I've ever been to. Worst layout, dumpy space, broken games with bad controls and dead monitors and nothing worth playing even if it worked.

The last time I was there, a lot of it was redemption or pinball.

Such potential. Oh well.

Thanks for the insights. Sadly, my interactions with the people there led me to the same conclusion.
