The 74xx series are easy to find, but what is hard to find when fixing old 1971-1984 boards?

Are any of the 2100 series ram particularly precious, or ???

I have a bunch of different 2xxx series memory chips and other oddball things that i'll be listing on my site over the next couple of weeks.

2101, 2102, 2111, etc... and some real oddball chips from Fujitsu (256x4 ECL) and Fairchild (24 pin 64x9 SRAM)....

I also have a LOT of those really hard to find audio amp chips with and without the U shaped copper heat sink from the old 70s games.

This is the same lot of chips that I've been pulling all the NOS Atari PROMs from. I have some old Midway PROMs that I need to test and identify too.

Actually, some of the 74xxx chips are starting to be hard to find. Most have 74HCxxx or 74HCTxxx replacements, but a lot of the 74 series chips have not been manufactured for a while. As FPGA and CLPD chips have become so much more affordable and prevalent, there is going to be less and less incentive to handle discrete logic chips.

Like LS244, LS245, LS283. Reminds me, I need to find some LS244.
Stuff like pokeys, dac's, lm379S, ECL are all hard to come by.

Give me a list and I'll see what I can find...

Another forum member and I are talking about making a trip to the bay area to hit up the surplus places.

Are LS244's really becoming hard to find? I'm in the UK and never have difficulty getting hold of what I need from RS and Farnell.

I have a bin of 'em here - all NTE244 in individual packages. ;)

The hard part of LS244/LS245 is the degree to which they get replaced. I use quite a few of 'em compared to other LS chips.

I've got hundreds of both... they're so cheap that it doesn't make sense not to have hundreds on hand.

Well,

I didn't pay NTE prices for these. I have the same thing in another 74xx part # too...

I bought out the semiconductor stock of a local company a few years back.

LS244's are not hard to find and are still made.

Most LS parts are still made but have gone up considerably in cost over the past few years.

Plain TTL parts - many of them have been discontinued. The popular ones are still made (i.e. 7404) but have skyrocketed in price. The cost from TI has gone up by a factor of nearly 20x during the past few years.

Most of the popular, cheaper parts such as 4000B series or 74F, 74HC or 74HCT series has seen price increases of 10 to 25% during the past three months.

Texas Instruments is the main manufacturer remaining in the US -- and nearly each and every IC made by TI is "on allocation"... very little factory stock remaining and parts that are left are being rationed. In past years, this used to be a good sign saying that the parts were selling faster than they are being made. But this time, it appears that TI is selling off stock and not replenishing. Hopefully, this trend doesn't continue.

Not so much hard to find but harder to find at good prices. I buy these anywhere from qty 100- 1000 at a time. When I say im low on something it means I only have a couple hundred left. Sorry, not paying ebay prices for TTL.
