Purchased a parts cab for it's monitor to replace the dead one in my ms pac cab and am unsure what is going on with it. Occasionally I plug it in and it displays the picture just fine...other times(most of the time) it displays the "lightning bolt" picture as seen below. I have tried adjusting the Horizontal Hold which does nothing to correct the picture.

What happens most of the time when powering it up:

Working after turning off and on several times:

Anyone have any ideas? Also, the only markings on this monitor are in japanese so I am unsure what model it is...

Order yourself a cap kit from Bob Roberts. Guy has fair prices and generally has anything you need to fix a monitor with lol.

www.therealbobroberts.net

He doesn't have any fancy online ordering site, just send him an email and when he confirms your order send a check or money order via mail. He does it the old way as he just runs his business out of his home. Nice guy though, will occasionally cross ship orders.

Thanks for the suggestions...
I have ordered from Bob Roberts before...great guy indeed :)

Don't know how you're going to order a cap kit without knowing the exact model. I just listed the manufacturer it most resembles.

You may need to just make your own cap list...

Yeah...I'll likely make that a weekend project one of these weekends. The thing has a ton of capacitors so I imagine I'll be busy on this one :)

For anyone who may stumble across this post in the future searching for a similar problem, I wanted to post an update...
Even after a cap kit, I had the same issue with the lightning bolt effect...The solution to my problem was replacing the Horizontal Hold potentiometer.

Also...I finally identified this monitor as a Sanwa PM1718. Schematics can be found in the Boomer Rangr manual as found at: http://www.crazykong.com/manuals/BoomerRangr.man.pdf

Bob Roberts now has a listing for a cap kit for those unfortunate enough to run into this monster(23 capacitors) :)
