What kinda sprayer would you guys suggest for my compressor?

Looking to refurb a couple Nintendo cabs and want to get a sprayer. Ive done some searching. I dont want to have to buy another compressor, just would like suggestions on the best for what I have to work with.

I have a pair of Ridgid tri-stack 5 gallon compressors. They do 4.9 CFM at both 40 and 90 PSI. I was told I could hook up both to accommodate a wider range of sprayers. Not sure how true that is. But I would prefer to find a sprayer that works well on just one because Im planning on selling one of the compressors.

HVLP Guns are usually set to 29 PSI at the gun for base coats and such. You will need to find a gun that whose CFM requirements match your compressor.....which might be kinda tricky. You'll be able to spray with that CFM output by your compressor but you will have to take breaks to allow the air pressure to build up.....which will happen a lot with the small tanks you have. Usually, the bigger the tank, the better and faster your experience will be. Keep that in mind when you are spraying, as reduced air flow will effect your pattern and consistency.

I love the $15 purple harbor freight gun, I use it on everything. However, it requires a 6 CFM....so it's gonna need more air than your compressor outputs. Just make sure, whatever gun you get has a 1.3-1.4 tip, as that does pretty much everything. Except primers, you'll need a 1.8 or bigger.

Spray gun

I have tried a wide range of compressors sizes over the last 5 years and it really depends on what you are spraying. For example if you were spraying a bicycle frame the 5 gallon compressor would be, you are not making long strokes and proper overlap. I have tried spraying a cabinet with with a 5 gallon compressor and it presents problems no only the required air pressure at the air cap bu also with the compressor working so long and hard to keep up, the air gets hot and tends to cause problems also.

I made the jump to a 30 gallon compressor and it is perfect with an HLVP gun, see picture for the most recent Reactor cab I painted for a friend.

My opinion is that its tough paint a cabinet with under a 15 gallon compressor.

Thanks
Greg
