What joysticks for Neo Geo MVS?

Oh didn't think about that. I guess the red cabs. I'm going to throw a 1 slot in a 19" jamma cab, just wondering what joysticks are best for neo geo games. Figured I might as well buy what factory intended, didn't know they used different in the candy cabs vs red cabs

In the US the red cabs were initially Wico and then Happ sticks (which included 'Happ' branded iL sticks). The current recommendation for a good functioning Happ style bat top stick I would say is the iL Eurostick.

The main difference is that originally the sticks had uncoated metal shafts, while every available stick now has a black (or other colors) coated shaft. Other than that, they will look about the same.

In the Japanese Candy Cabs I think they were mostly Seimitsu LS-32 at least the U4, but there were a bunch of different cabs.

I have never used convex buttons on my machines before. Might give that a shot on Neo Geo

The Neo Geo originally used Wico black conical microswitch joysticks with the Pyramid style actuator block. These sticks also had custom dust washers with a larger shaft opening which as far as i can tell, was the only joystick in their line to use those washers. They also came with Wico vertical Maxi buttons. Video evidence shows that some time in the early 90's 3-KOAM switched to Happ Ultimate joysticks and Happ Ultimate vertical buttons. Early neo-geo trade show units had a slightly different CPO and used red colored conical shafts instead of black. The Romstar Neo-Geo 1-slot kits came bundled with Wico Balltop microswitch joysticks 1 in red and 1 blue along with Wico vertical Maxi buttons.

What the original joysticks looked like (these have the non neo-geo specific dust washer on them)

Your shaft knowledge is impressive but not unexpected…
