I'm building a 60in1 cabinet and I'm about to order a joystick and TB. I know that I once read about a 2/4/8 way josytick that could be adjusted from above by pulling up on the joystick. I was a bit pricey, something like $30. I can't seem to find this anywhere. Id anyone familiar this josytick, and if so, is it worth it? We really want the machine for Galaga and the DK's.

Also, I have two 3" Happ TB's. I know that I need the new "red boards" for the TB. Do they make red boards for the 3" TB's or am I just better off getting a new 2 1/4" TB that already has the red boards?

I think ultimarc has the the joystick you are thinking of

jammacade.com has a sanwa joystick with a disc that rotates from underneath for the 4way/8way. also the happ 2 1/4" trackball with the red boards is nice - as that is the size that centipede came with. you can get that from bob roberts.

ultimarc has the top switching joystick. If this is for you/family and a few friends it works great. The "throw" is a little short but you get used to it. But its a hassle to explain to everyone how it works at a party. But any switching Joystick will have that issue and most are much harder to switch. Might be best to just go with an 8way or 4 way and deal with the issues of some games being harder to play if you have lots of new people coming over. I think the one Sanwa with one of the restrictors works good in 60-in-1

Buy the Happ trackball (not Betson / Imperial) "Twisted Quarter" has sales fairly often check their web site and ebay since the sale is normally only on one place.

Thanks. This is just for my basement and I already have a dedicated Ms. Pac that has 4in1 installed. Mostly this 60in 1 is for Galaga and the DK's. I don't want to have to open and close the CP with nephews around. Don't need them to see how it opens. I guess I'll get the Ultimarc and and new 2 1/4 Happ TB. Thanks to all.

I use a Sanwa for my 60-1 and it works just fine.
If DK & Galaga are the ones to mostly be played set it on 4 way and it will be fine.

I'm about to order a new 2 1/4" TB but I'm confused about the need for a TB Mounting Plate. I have a metal CP, currently no holes. The CP I'm replacing - Pound for Pound - had a metal CP and the the 2 TB's were mouned right onto the CP. What is the purpose of a TB mounting plate and do I need one?

Also, do the TB's come with a hole drilling template?

You can mount the TB with or without the mounting plate.
The nice thing about using the plate is the hole cut into the cp doesn't have to be perfect just big enough to get the ball through.
The downside is the plate will sit above the cp creating a lip.
If you mount the TB under the cp without the plate the hole for the ball is exposed and needs to be nice and clean or it looks like ass and the mounting bolts will be exposed.
My cp was wood so I routed the wood enough for the plate to sit flush.
I don't think the TB's come with a template so I used the mounting plate to draw the circle and cut it out.
This should help you out. http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/55110100.htm
Check out the mounting view.

Thanks. I'm going to have a machine shop cut the holes anyway so they should be nice and clean. I guess I'll use that template on the happ website to help design my CP.

I have tried a few different sticks, and have found the best stick for what I play on it (mainly the Pacs, DK, Galaga, Mr.Do's) is a Ms.Pac stick, as I don't play the games that require an 8 way. To each thier own.

I like the Sanwa because it feels pretty close to an original DK stick.
I mostly play DK and the Ms.Pac stick wouldn't feel right for it to me.

I think that I'm going to go with the Sanwa JLF. It's been suggested to get the optional octagonal restrictor plate. I'm not sure how it would work with Galaga. I might get as an additional option just to check it out.
