I've been sort of curious for awhile now after meeting a number of arcade hobbyists. It seems that everyone I've met in the arcade hobby is either rather well off, or dirt-poor. So, I was curious as to what people do for a living that allows them to spend their income on such an extravagant hobby.

I work at a power plant.

I develop engine management software used in turbocharged vehicle applications. In simple speak I am considered a "Tuner" in the import racing scene.

I don't know about everyone else, but this hobby is not expensive for the most part, because I spent way more money when I was dumping it into my old CRX. I can usually find games for around 100$ or less, and usually find spare parts for dirt cheap, as a matter of fact Ive been through about 25 games within the last yr and Ive never paid over 200$. But anyways I travel nation wide and install vehicle data systems and computer networks, I'm not wealthy nor poor, but I do go through some rough times here and there. Im just average I guess.

Sorry, first thing that popped into my head

I'm a programmer and also do freelance web development. Have to agree with kjeffery. I don't find this hobby too expensive. I just buy stuff when I have money, fix games slowly and don't blow a lot of money.

Well, my job as a tech support supervisor (yes, in the USA!!!) pays some of the bills. My Wife's job affords us the hobbies both mine and hers.

I worked at Home Depot through College. Best job, ever. Worked with a ton of people I went to school with, and there was a bar in our same parking lot that we all used to drink beers at during lunch (yep) and after work. Fucking awesome job.

Nice to see a fellow product development engineer in our ranks. I happen to do the same thing, though I own the facility. We used to call ourselves "R&D Engineers" back in the day. :)

Engineer for a custom product development house. Not fabulously wealthy at all, but can't complain.
cheers

Executive for an international information management company (currently in Barbados negotiating a deal to buy another company) and my wife is an attorney.

I'll put you in the wealthy category ;)

I'm VP for a toy & game manufacturer and wifey is a physical therapist. Neither rich, nor poor. Strike that, I have 2 kids- soon to be poor...
