After owning this Donkey Kong Junior cabinet for nearly a year, I'm finally starting to knock some items off the list of stuff that's been bugging me. Yesterday I finished and installed the back door I've had lumber for several months. Tonight I removed the coin door.

I found a wrench at Ace Hardware for $4 that worked perfectly in removing the bolts holding the coin door in place. Just a plain old 7mm wrench. I didn't even have to remove the coin box. We'll see how it goes when I try to put the door back in place. The key here is the 7mm. I'm posting this here for the newbs like me in the future who are looking for the size of the bolts.

Second, I may be in the market for a coin door. Don't need the mechs or bolts. Just the metal door. That's only if I can't straighten out the door that I just removed. The biggest issue it has is a dent inward on the left corner of the door. I'm gonna bust out the old hammer tomorrow and see what I can do.

This hobby is way too addictive.

Thanks for the tip! I need to get mine off and refinish it. I was wondering if a 7mm socket would work but my guess is that there's not enough room.

Yeah, probably not enough room for the ones behind the coin box shelf. Some people remove that, but I didn't have the guts to go that route.

You need a thin wrench too (for the two bolts that are directly between the door and the coin shelf.) Auto supply stores are a good place too look. I got mine at an Ace Harware though.

Dent Removed!

Amazingly, I was able to get the dents out of the door and get it reasonably straight. Now I'm onto removing the paint in preparation for a new paint job. I'm do glad for the steel wheel drill attachment. While still a long process, it makes paint removal much easier.

I can't imagine what the cavemen had to do to get paint of their coin doors.

I have had good luck with chemical gel type strippers on Nintendo doors and it is alot faster than a wire wheel and leaves a better result IMHO.

Have you thought about paint? My DK door doesn't really have a strong texture. What did they look like originally? I think I may try the primer - Rustoleum Hammered - satin black technique.

I put a first coat of paint on last night. Rustoleum. Not sure exactly which one. I can check tonight when I get home. I can get a photo too. I do know it has no texture.

It's going to look really nice, much better than it did before. If I did it again I probably would've used a little bondo on the corner where the dent was. It's so much better but not perfect. Of course, this machine is never going to be minty.

Here is my minty coin door.
No dents or bends and original finish.:)

Some guys use spray on bed liner for their doors.

Now that's minty! OK, that gives me an idea what to shoot for. How abotu the other metal on the cabinet, like the marquee and bezel retainers? Do they have the same finish?

The marquee and bezel retainers have a smooth gloss finish.
I just painted mine semi gloss but some I have seen recently, that are original, have a gloss finish on them.
