What is your most underrated arcade game of all time?

Doom. I got to play the prototype at a CGPA show and it translated well to the arcade format, but they were working on Quake so it died due to inattention.

OoooOOOooooh... What were the controls like?

OoooOOOooooh... What were the controls like?

As I recall, they were a joystick and 3 buttons, one for fire, one for next weapon and one for previous weapon.

Edit: Plus a player 1 and player 2 button. Also I looked it up and apparently it was Doom II not Doom.

Xevious had 3 sequels and was included in a Namco multi-board. With that much success, does it qualify as under rated?
Someone else named Mr. Do. Same situation!

Yer the Underrated has been confused here ,

Underrated , = Game that everyone " underrated as crap " , but turned out a classic

Having said this , i did post Ambush , as far as i know , it still is UN - RATED .

Taito Change Lanes

Taito Change Lanes is my vote..

Buddy of mine gave me a dedicated one a few years ago for helping him move 30+ of his games out of a barn.. It was humid and 100 that day, but who's complaining :)

Never heard of it before that day, got it home and fired it up.. Graphics bleed a bit but was playable.. Damn, what a fun game! Check it out in mame.. Mylstar holds the world record for it.. If anyone knows of, or can find me pcbs for this game I'll reward them well!! I have 3 extra pcbs and all 3 are DOA.. Plus I need the gas pedal.. It's gonna be a 10 year project prolly..

I thought of another one, "Splatterhouse" wish I could find that board set somewhere cheap. I can play that for hours...

Phozon, 1983, Namco. It's so under rated that KLOV doesn't even list it under the alphabetical listing. Google finds it, though. It has an "almost Gravitar" feel to it, to me. (EDIT: No, not Gravitar. Quantum)

Also Blast Off, 1989, Namco, the sequel to Bosconian. Fun vertical shooter. Looks and feels like it's from the classic era, with speech.

KLOV doesn't list it either, but again Google does. Is there something up with the KLOV database, or am I doing something weird?

Data East's Shootout. Fun game to this day and pretty good looking for the time period.

+1 for this game, I use to play the hell out of this at a local Little King's sandwich shop years ago. And if I ever get my multicab finished(damn monitor issue), I have it on the multiboard. I've met one person in town who knows of the game, and a handful over the internet.

Sengoku 3- I really enjoyed this title. Many don't like it compared to Sengoku 2, but as a longtime fan of the series I think it's excellent. The graphics are fantastic, the combo system is addicting, and the character designs are extremely well done. Definitely one of my favorite beat 'em ups.

Zupapa!- Simply addicting. One of my favorite platformers. The game has tons of character and really gets frantic during the later levels.

Cadash- I've always been a huge fan of fantasy themed sidescrollers, and Cadash is one of the best. All of the RPG elements combined with a fantastic co-op experience make this a classic.

Rastan- Did I mention I love side scrolling fantasy titles from this era? Another gem, and one of the first arcade games that I fell in love with. I used to get the BGM from the castle stage stuck in my head for days at a time.

Assault- Just a really fun tank blaster I can never get enough of.

Underrated, as in most collectors don't care for the gameplay or care to own the game.

I have a dedicated Shootout. It took forever to find it and get extra parts like a NOS marquee and CPO. It even has sideart on one side that I hope to scan and reproduce sooner than later.

My vote would go to PENGO. Most people aren't very familiar with it, but after learning how to play most of my friends love it. Plus, it's got Penguins and who doesn't love penguins?
