Been selling quite a bit of stuff on eBay recently with good success, but ran into a nut job. Sold him a Gorf PCB, shipped it out, and he said it doesn't work, the boards were warped or something he claims.

I just went through this set about four weeks ago, yes, stuff can happen and it may have arrived broken, so I ask him to send it back and I'll test it, fix and reship it. Also offer to take a look at his Gorf PCB and try to fix it. I spoke with this guy on the phone yesterday and he was fine with that.

I get this email tonight:

"I am now mad. After further review of the purchased items VS. what was received, I do not feel I was felt with in the proper way. I want my money back for the board set right away. I will, of course, send the set back to you. The board set was not even the one in the picture!!!!!!! I will open a dispute in the am if I do not hear from you."

He is right in that the board might not have been the exact one pictured, I generally use a sample pic as we sometimes have more than one in stock. Maybe I should have done a better job explaining that. But come on, is the rest of this called for? Bear in mind I spoke with yesterday and he was fine with my original offer.

I am not going to post names at this point, mainly just venting. I guess you can't please everyone.

Anthony

Thats Crap.... Hope you mark your boards like I do before I sell them.. What does it matter if its not the one in the picture..

Best think to do is tell him to return it, verify that is is your board set.. then refund him.. You offered a perfectly acceptable soultion and he is still bitching.. Im betting he sends you back a different boardset..

Yeah, you meet all kinds in this hobby as a seller.. Some guys spend a ton of cash and are cool as hell.. Some spend $15 and I toss in freebies, but get pissed if the items are in their hands within the week of purchase..

Maybe he's a decent dude and was burned lately.. Maybe he's a freakshow..

I had a similar issue with a non arcade related sale, the guy got the item and a full refund with shipping and still left me negative feedback. He was never able show any damage to item, his emails stated some (similar) but different wrong. B

is it that fucking idiot in Colorado again that we keep seeing post after post about?

I hate it when sellers use stock photos, especially on PCBs. I've only been burned once but it was a boardset that looked perfect in the picture and arrived missing a lot. Your offer was fair and the seller should have accepted it. You've put yourself in this position by not showing a picture of the actual item or not identifying it as a stock photo. Take the extra time in the future.

I'm new to arcades, but not to eBay. If you're selling items without disclosing that you're using stock photos you're asking for trouble. It may even be considered a listing violation on a used item. You never know what caught a buyer's eye in an auction and if I bought something with the expectation that it looked a certain way and it arrived differently, I'd be pissed. Even when you're on the up and up, it looks like you're trying to scam the buyer.

On the quarterarcade site it clearly says "Sample Picture of item. The actual item may look slightly different." If the buyer was too stupid to read that, then it's his own fault. There's a good chance I wouldn't have even offered to help him out, he doesn't deserve it with the way he is carrying on.

I believe the OP said this was sold on ebay, not from his own site.

He's either trying to scam you, or he's not intelligent enough to realize that since the boardset installs in a cage, that the cage could have issues.

Personally, since I know Quarterarcade has been around forever and does a great job, and I've bought things from them before that were always as described, I'd ASSUME that the pcb I bought from Quarteracade was tested working like they say it was. Then I'd figure out what's wrong with the rest of my cabinet that's making this confirmed tested working pcb not boot up.

It probably worked fine, though, and he's trying to swap back his old boards for cash.

You know how in the old days, all the thugs wore cigarette packs in their rolled up t-shirt sleeve and looked like the Fonz? Now they all play video games and scam shit over the internet.

Yea could be the cage, as simple as one of the boards not seated correctly.. Power supply issues connectors ect.. Gorfs are touchy.. Its also possible that when he recieved the boardset and it didnt work he realized that his problem was not the boards, and decided he didnt need them..

i dont really have much to contribute to this thought, i just wanted to thank tony for calling me back about numan athletics. thanks dude! sorry to hear about this guy. you're clearly a guy that cares about your customers, or you'd have done me like a lot of others and only called me back if you were able to make a sale. some dudes are funny, best of luck in the future dude!

eBay breeds these kind of cockheads I'm afraid! They encourage buyers to argue about everything and dispute every sale. eBay don't give a toss as they ALWAYS get their cut - eBay/PayPal are pond scum!

With eBay the buyer is always right now and it is a scamers dream site now. I have been lucky with parts sales but here lately I am getting some dumb people. I have purchase tons of shit from Quarterarcade and ALWAYS been happy and have a order in right now for a Red Barron set. Quarterarcade is a great place for us and glad you guys are there.

I don't recall this specific eBay item, but Antony does a very good job identifying that the items may not be the items in the photos. When you sell as much stuff as he does, using stock photos is a valid business practice. I have yet to hear from anybody (that I consider reputable) that has bought from Quarterarcade that has had a legitimate beef and not been able to work things out.

I would call him back and politely ask "WTF!". If he is still unhappy, then offer a full refund, after the boardset is back in your hands.

I consider myself lucky. I have only had one jockhole pull those kinds of shennanigans on me. He claimed that the Bubbles set I sold him did not work. I told him to send them back and I would repair or replace them. After about 6 weeks of emailing back and forth, I got a box with a Defender MPU, a Robotron ROM card with 4 Bubbles ROM, and 8 unknown ROMs with the labels removed. I haven't seen him in a while and the last time I looked his eBay account was suspended, so I can't be the only one he pulled this on. This was a couple of years ago and all I remember was that he went by the name of Victor.

Anthony, you are good people. Sadly though, there are people out there (and the number is growing) who are not. Wipe this dude from your cache and move forward. Trying to understand people like this will bug you forever.

You have to train yourself that when the first thought enters your mind about that transaction or that buyer, to immediately say out loud AW F** THAT GUY. It has worked wonders for me. It works well for dysfunctional family members too (that's when I had to learn to teach myself to do it). :D

Repeat the words above and then move forward. You will soon feel better.

I'm thinking of starting a new business. Anyone you want beaten with an axe handle, 99.95 + travel expenses. Will work weekends and holidays. Satisfaction guaranteed.
