So last night I fire up the Ms Pac and and and and the screen is all garbled. Nothing but odd characters. After about 10 times of turn it off, unplugging it, re plugging it back in and turning it back on, it did finally work. Anyone know what would cause this? Did I knock something loose?

first thing I do with symptoms like that is reseat all socketed chips. 30-40% effective.

You will absolutely want to take the board out of the cab to reseat the chips. Also you will want to be extremely careful and patient when taking the chips out and putting them back in...the pins occasionally become corroded and are sometimes very fragile.
Just take your time getting them out of the sockets and back in and you should be ok :)

With a knife or flathead screwdriver- theres actually probably a real tool designed for this. You need to do it slowly and with even pressure. Those legs on the chips bend very very easily. I broke a leg once on a chip and was able to rebuild and reattach the leg with solder thankfully.

STOP! DO NOT DO THIS YET.

Before you do this... unplug the game from the wall... take the back off the cabinet... remove the fuses... make sure the fuses and fuse holders are clean and shiny AND that the fuse holders are making a tight connection to the fuses.

This is a common problem.

Also, if there's an extra board between the game board and the wiring harness connector then remove it and plug the harness into the game board. That extra board is called a filter board and causes problems. The game will run fine without it.

I think you'll have issues with those and not with reseating chips.

Also, these are easier things to do... and things that are less likely to result in accidental damage. ;)

I do have to agree to try this first. My tron looked alot like your picture and I replaced all the fuses and it was one that I overlooked. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Well from what I can tell the fuses all look good. The fuses holders however are NOT shiny. They seem corroded, have kind of a yellowish color to them. I pulled all the fuses out and put them back in and the game fired right up tonite. I'll turn it on again later just to see if it fires right up again. So do I clean the fuse holders, or do they need to be replaced?

Replace them as they are a common problem.

They corrode and they get weak to where they don't hold the fuse tight.

You can buy new fuse holders at Radio Shack.
