I got this board and it almost works.. main board it good. Rom board is bad.. Whe you plug it in, you get a red screen and can hear game music playing instantly when you turn it on (game play music ).

the board has a strange chip in socket 20. The chip that fits into the eprom socket says:
altera ep610pc-201
f9229

I pulled the chip out of the socket and it looks like pin 28 is broken or cut off.. (Maybe thats why the board does not work.. )

here are some pics..

I was thinking of fixing the broken pin and see if it works.. any idea what version of SF II it is?

That looks like a SF2 CE or Hyper Fighting board (same board, just a couple of roms are different), not a WW. I have no idea what that Altera chip is for, maybe it's part of a hacked version.

Here's a pic of my HF pcb. It's fully working and socket 20 is empty.

Thanks for the info..

so chip 20 is not normally used? weird..

I have a hyperfighting pcb and I was going to look at that. But its in a cab and not easy to get to right now..

Like jepjepjep said nothing should be in slot 20, and it's a CE board. With what type of CE or HF eprom chips we don't know. Nothing should be in slots 14,15,16,17, 20, 25,26,27,28,29,30 & 31

Where in the world did you find that Altera Chip? Have you tried running the board without it? I've never even seen a hack use them before. I own 2 hacked CE boards and you only need to change out 21,22, & 23 to modify the CE board.

Also maybe if you replace eprom chips 21,22, & 23 or reburn them. You may see a working result. I'm not 100% sure if that is the problem.

Maybe paried1ll0 may be able to clue in better.

pcb came in a package deal. I dug out my SFII cab and will try running it without the chips and swapping roms.. I will try yo fix the broken leg a try it on monday..

I will send a message to Prairied1ll0 to see what he thinks..

$.02 but i'm no expert. There are way more technical guys on the boards than me. My time at Capcom didn't specifically teach me any technical board "know how" either. I did console stuff.

I have never seen that chip in that slot in the 12+ SF2 CE/HF boards that I've seen.
I never looked at it specifically but never recalled a chip in that slot.

Personally I would do chip swaps with a working CE/HF or even Rainbow to see if you can get another board to bootup working w/out the extra "altera" chip and see what happens.
If it works, send 21-23 out to have reburned as HF so that it's now worth $75+

It's funny cause my wife works at Altera.
