I need help identifying this Pac-Man clone/hack. It's in a working cocktail, but the colors/patterns and sounds are all different. Pac-Man is red and the ghosts are different colors and turn Green when you eat a power pill. The ghosts have different names than the standard ones as well. Best I can come up with after research is a variation of a Galaxian board hack. Would you guys concur? Pics are below.

My next question is...can I switch this out with a real Pac-Man or Ms. Pac board to this harness?

Deja vu. I picked up a very similar cabinet recently which had a pac clone on it. Characters were changed to pirate heads and skulls and had the same maze as New Puck X.

To answer your questions, no thats not a Galaxian board, looks like a bootleg, and no, you cant put any other boardset in it, especially a Pac or Ms. Pac since the power for those 2 games is integrated into the PCB. (plus the pinouts are very different)

Heres what mine looked like:

That's what happens when you hack Pac-Man onto a Galaga...

Weklove80s... I have saw your bootleg in Mame or MisfitMame. Tricman.... Yours matches the "PacMan on Galaxian Hardware" with the looks of the maze and the names of the ghosts, but the colors are not accurate for it, and as mentioned above, not a Galaxian PCB. Very interesting.

Hmmm, thanks guys!

I wonder if there is anything else, even another hack, that can plug into this thing. Any idea what that board was originally?

Looks like the PuckMan ROMS with the alternate dip switch setting:

Puckman's ghosts have names and nicknames which are : Oikake (Akabei), Machibuse (Pinky), Kimagure (Ausuke), and Otoboke (Guzuta). The are red, pink, cyan, and orange in color respectively. Puckman also has a dip switch for alternate ghost names : Urchin (Macky), Romp (Micky), Stylist (Mucky), and Crybaby (Mocky). In "Pac-Man", the later non-Japanese game, the ghosts' names and nicknames are Shadow (Blinky), Speedy (Pinky), Bashful (Inky), and Pokey (Clyde).

im thinking that would be a great multicade project., switch the harness , 60 in one board and voila..

that kind of looks like a nichubusu( like what dk came in) cabinet..

That's "Ghost Muncher"... pac hack with terrible colors and sound on galaxian hardware...

If you're lucky it's the 'cartridge' version, and you can swap carts to get other games.

Cool. Yeah it's a really strange machine. It also had a really powerful and noisy fan that I disabled. It wasn't noisy b/c it was bad, it was noisy b/c it was so fast and powerful! Obviously didn't need it b/c it works fine without it.

The underlay cards are just typed up pieces of paper that say Puck-Man with instructions on how to play. Not sure which switch would get the ghosts to turn back to Japanese names or even if that's possible. I've tried all the dips and the names stay the same.

I don't have too much love for this hack to be honest.

Is it difficult (we're talking super inexperienced user here) to get this to run a 60 in 1 or something similar? I'd really like to get it to run at the very least Pac-Man, but it would probably be more worth it to run that and other games that don't need buttons (Frogger also comes to mind). I'd rather not drill a hold in both sides of the CP to add buttons if I can help it.

Your only option is to rewire it with a JAMMA harness. If you dont want to drill holes for buttons, you can get a joystick with a thumb button, but then youll only have one button, some games on the 60-1 need 2.

use player two start button as the second button for games that require it.

That'd work as long as you don't use player 2 in cocktail mode...then player 2 will be at a slight disadvantage on most games :D

I've seen pics of iCade. Is that the same thing? I'd probably opt to drill the holes if that was the case.

I have seen that name set a few times. I think I have a board here now with it.
I havent come across any bootlegs with a red pac. Pac is red if using pac plus color prom on reg pac so maybe thats whats going on there.

So I have a rare pac-hack? Woohoo! :D

Reminds me of this:

I wish my Pac-Man drank 7-Up between stages. :) Still, I would trade it for a regular Pac-Man in a heartbeat.
