So the Donkey Kong machine I'm fixing up has a weird little peephole on the front to the right of the coin door and its wired up to this brown plastic box...I have no idea what this is or what it possibly could have been used for...its like spliced into the power wiring. The game sounds all work but I'm getting the monitor capped tomorrow to fix the monitor issues (mostly white screen and jail lines) so I can't really test anything to see what it could possibly be used for. Any idea what the heck this is??? sorry for a couple of the sideways pics...

Do you have the world's only Donkey Kong player "junk" cam???

Any marking on it? Screws to take the box apart to see what's in it?

It definitely looks like a camera of some kind, especially if its wired up to a power source. Its pretty creepy to say the least....

I had a feeling this was weird...he is one more shot. Maybe I will try and make a quick video to submit. I realize its kinda hard to tell.

Judging from the cracked wood near the coin door looks like a break in attempt..maybe the previous operators solution was to put hidden camera to catch anyone damaging or attempting to break in..

My first thought was "data collection device." The sort of thing wired into vending machines that lets a vendor hold a handheld device up to the unit and read sales counts.

That would also explain why it's hooked into the coin door.

My Zaxxon has a black round lens that is hard to see as it was Installed on the black side art.

The operator that gave me that cabinet said he had a theft problem. Cigerettes and cash going missing. He said when he contacted the police they came by his Arcade and suggest that he move a game in front of the office to where the manager counts the cash and install a camera.

Sure enough the manager and assistant manager were stealing.

Probably the same sort of thing.

That is the newest requirement by TG if you want to submit a DK score. :D

LMAO!

What's amazing to me is that wireless security systems like that can be purchased new on ebay for $26 - $40 with free shipping.

update : so it turns out it is a green led light...not a camera. Almost a standby light...it stayed on even with the power off (but plugged into wall). I cracked open the old brown plastic case and found a small weird board inside...heres a couple pics. Does this shed any light on what it could be??? I cut it out of the machine and it didn't affect the machine (thank God). The power was spliced into the power cord...weird.

Some sort of remote (IR?) power control maybe? Can't tell without looking at the details of the circuit... I'm guessing because there are a few relays there and some logic devices.
