What is this Hydro Thunder part supposed to do?

Ok, so apparently this thing in the picture is a "resistor update kit" for Hydro Thunder. Does anyone know exactly what the function of this is? My buddy has the cockpit version of Hydro Thunder, and we looked all over in the cabinet, but it doesn't seem to have this part installed in it anywhere. Obviously it's not essential, if the machine is working without it, but I'm still curious. What the hell is this thing?

I am not sure on that but it does look like an old wire wound resistor and a big one at that.

It's part of the Steering motor assembly. It's probably an update released due to some steering failures to keep the motor from burning out.

You can see it on the left in this image:

And no, I don't see one in mine either...

My motor was definetely burned out and I have a new one on order. Maybe I should buy this part to keep that from happening while the machine is in my care.

+1

If it keeps from replacing a motor and doesn't cost more than a new motor or two, Go for it. Other than than, sometimes it doesn't cost as much for a motor if you buy two at the same order.
