1983 Video City Original Video Game Art
ZAXXON
This nice piece of 27 year old art (black and white xerox photocopy with color and notations originally acquired directly from the Topps Vault several years back). This is the exact item received directly from the Topps Vault.
It has since been owned by me and kept in a smoke free environment.

Topps did make a line of arcade gum back in the 80's. That could be a proof type sheet to make sure colors and lettering were correct before printing the packaging.

Now that is fucking cool and I actually kinda remember it. I wish people posted more arcade-related stuff like this on the forums. That is a cool product. Interesting to see the treatment they gave the specific artwork of each game given the limited cabinet pattern. Very sweet.

I bet it has to do with their Video City series. I remember Zaxxon being one of the video games featured.

WOW, that is cool!!!

I don't know for sure if that is where it came from. It would be a starting point to do further research on the item though. Topps were the king of trading cards in that time anything that could be put on a trading card was. There may have been an arcade series of trading cards they were working on that was scrapped and it may be from that. It's definitely an interesting piece, but $150 for a photocopy? That seems a bit pricey. Tell the guy you'll give him $5 to scan it and print it for you :D

That is one I had never heard of.

In the early 80s, once arcades became ultra-popular, card companies tried to recreate the arcade experience by creating card sets that would allow the purchaser to play a game via rubbing off different discs (sort of like scratch-off lottery cards) to see if you can win. The Video City set from Topps does just this, allowing you to see how you do in non-digital forms of Frogger, Zaxxon, Turbo and more! Each pack contains 3 rub off cards, 3 stickers and a stick of gum (which we would NOT suggest eating!) in what we think is a 26 sticker and four design rub off set.

You can buy a box of these cards for $50

Call me crazy but if i hadn't just spent a bunch of money on some other arcade related stuff I would buy that Zaxxon art. It is cool and not something you see everyday. Especially if you have a Zaxxon to hang it next to.

It's a photocopy though. For that price I would want the real thing. I actually just bought the entire set of the video city cards so when they get here we can compare the pics and see if it was actually used in that set of cards.

The same seller also has another zaxxon related piece.

The robot killer would be a great graphic to have blown up and turned into a sign for the arcade.

I went through the Video City cards and stickers that I have. The second ebay link is one of the stickers. Attached are the Zaxxon ones that I have. The top three are stickers and the bottom two are front and back of the scratch-off cards.

I have these color key proof sets with COA from Topps. Its 3 or 4 films and when put together, they form a color image.

They are FS for the right offer. :)
