What is the most unfulfilling/booring part of restoration for you?

I hate that people lose or discard backdoors for games. WTF?! You wouldn't remove the backdoor of your house and just discard or lose it because, like a backdoor for a game,it's pretty damn important.

Most of the time they are missing because:

a) they got damaged when someone lost the key and had to break in, or someone broke into it thinking they could get to the cash box that way.

b) they were made out of crappier material than the rest of the cab, and disintegrated or fell apart.

c) ops took them off in the warehouse in order to pull parts or whatever, then reused them on other cabs with damaged doors, then sold the cabs without the doors.

I just grab a sheet of 2'x4' (usually big enough) and have the Home Depot or Lowe's guys cut it for me. If I need to router an edge or put a lock hole in it before painting it, that's nothing...

Agreed ... not difficult to do... just the thing I enjoy the least... everything else contributes to the look of the game... but the back door is nothing more than just necessary.

Is there a demand for replacement Williams Robotron, Stargate cabinet lower backdoors, with the rabbets and hinge holes cut? I don't know that shipping would be bad on that, since I could just wrap them in cardboard. I know some may not have the tools required to make those and they're often swollen or flaking apart. I make mine out of 1/2" birch ply.

I would think there is a demand for doors in general... I'm not sure about specific games. Heck I'd be satisfied with a database of door plans. As of today I have plans for StarWars UR, Defender, APB and Berzerk. I could add Space Invaders (Midway), Tempest and Missile Command.

Sanding... at any phase.... is boring and tedious. Plus most the time you're essentially removing previous work (prepping paint layers for another coat)... ughhh.

For me it is metal restoration. I just hate all the little metal parts that need to be cleaned. Making every piece of metal look new again seems to take forever especially for parts that will almost never be seen.

Hands down
Fixing someone else's CRAPPY work!! whether it be wiring, or cosmetic stuff, I just HATE fixing stuff that another person did half A$$ed....it is a nightmare figuring out!
after that SANDING.....followed by waiting for paint/glue to dry....removing old decals is a close 4th.....
