ok....i have read alot of posts before and heard of some good ideas and nightmares......but what is the best product to use to seal a backglass?
i have a backglass that needs sealed......its not bad but i want to prevent anything from falling off. i have tried to not deal with this for a long time but the time has come and im trying to see what you other guys use for good long term use?

any opinions is appreciated and will help.....i want to fix this soon
thank you

Krylon triple thick is typically recommended & used. It's a clear spray, and the "triple thick" refers to the need for less repeated coats/spraying, as it goes down thicker.

Comes in a spray can, easy to use, and I've never had any issues with it on any of the multiple backglasses I've sealed with it (or equivalents).

Do *NOT* use any type of tape, period. Tape will dry up, shrink, and ultimately cause more damage - I've seen several backglasses that had tape put over what at the time was minor lifting, where the tape ended up causing even more damage over time.

The nice thing about using a clear on the backglass is that you can go in afterwards to attempt touchups - if you mess up, wipe them off, and try again; the clear protects the original artwork.

You can either put some low-tack tape down in the score/credit windows (don't let it get on the artwork - you want the spray to go just beyond the artwork into the clear glass a bit if possible), or just spray it and scrape it away from score/credit windows with a razor blade after it's all dried.

For severe cases, dig on the net for the uses of "Glad" wrap to help seal up very large flaking areas. It's tricky, and takes some practice, but it definitely works.

Good luck!

Krylon Tripple Thick 0500 Crystal Clear Glaze bought from Wal Mart is what I've been using with good results. I've heard some horror stories too and if I were you I'd make sure the glass is in a location where the humidity and temperature are stable and don't subject the TT'd glass to extremes afterwards to be on the safe side. Just leave it in a controlled environment for best results. I used to TT any paint loss I had and now I just do the glasses with lifting that I feel may get worse. I've heard of a couple ways to apply - which is best I don't know. Several have said 1 heavier coat followed by 2 light coats and a few others say 3 light coats works also. I've tried both ways with good results.........good luck..........Dave

has anyone else ever had problems with the krylon triple thick?
thats seems to be the most popular even from other posts i read......this machine will stay in a climate controlled enviroment. taping off the score windows is no problem for me.

im just wondering do you guys usually spray the sealer straight on the glass??? or someone else told me to spray it over the glass and let it fall onto the glass???

are heavier coats better than a few light coats?
lol i dont wanna mess this up

would it be maybe a good idea to try it on a junk/unused backglass first?

thanks for the advice because ive never done this before
dave

I've sealed a couple of glasses with the triple thick and had no issues. I sprayed straight at it and it seemed to work just fine. Just be careful with the display windows. I had to lightly scribe along the tape masking the windows so it didnt lift the clear when I pulled the tape off.
