I have a jamma cab that I'd like to populate with my favorite jamma games and NBA Jam is one of them. There are a lot of different versions out there with the Hangtimes and TE's and Extremes and whatnot. Is there a consensus on which one is best or are there a couple that are definitely not games to get?

personally I like NBA JAM TE the best...........

They all seem to have pretty much the same gameplay, it's just a matter of getting the one (or two) that has the best matchups and deepest game play (hidden characters, most options, etc.). Sounds like Hangtime and Maximum Hangtime are the same game except for updated rosters on MH so I think I'll look out for either of those. TE sounds like a good one too so I have several options.

I own NBA Jam, TE, and a friend has Maximum Hang Time, they are all fun!

tho popularity is something like this

Max Hang Time
TE (with mk chars)
TE (without MK chars)
Regular Jam

the double dunks, ally oops, and game play of Max Hang Time as well as character customization make it hard to beat.

Maximum Hangtime seems to be a tough one to find, i'd say grab regular and get the upgrade proms made up. the roster is the only difference i believe other than the art.

What should I be paying for a Hangtime or Max Hangtime board?

Most I have seen are around $90. I just got lucky and found one on ebay with a full control panel shipped for $105. It is Hangtime, so I guess I will need to figure out which roms to update for max.

are those Hangtime boards easy to swap on a typical NBA JAM setup? It would be nice if it was just a matter of changing the board , and rehooking up the 3p/4p harness and thats it.

That is it.

Ive had issues with volume levels in NBA Jam cabs (since they are wired to a soundcard and have their own volume knob in the cab) but thats it.
