I know we are effectively using aftermarket parts when we are performing cap kits on our chassis. In this case, the aftermarket product is better than original since it uses modern source parts and such. In other cases, the old flybacks are known to work better. But things such as transistors and B+'s might be another story. I live in an area that has a Fry's Electronics along with mom and pop's electronics stores that has many such parts in their store. For quicker turn around time, is it generally frowned upon to use such parts for monitor repair? Like, do you get what you pay for. Or is a situation where good things come to those who wait?

Right now I am awaiting transistors to arrive from China that are suppose to be OEM Toshiba parts. But in the future, should I just match schematics and go with the aftermarket parts?

If we dont use aftermarket parts all our shit would be dead and all our monitors would look like ass cheeks or be dead.

most parts are available here from me and many other local (usa sources). the problem with the china sources is they sell used parts as new or they sell counterfeit made in china junk and yes they are cheap and you wait forever to find out what you got is what you paid for. in most cases (not always) you do get what you paid for and also if you have a problem good luck. i know i personally spend alot and i mean ALOT of hours trying to have the best quality parts and if there is a problem i have always stood behind them unlike others.

I have spent hundreds at Peter's store, my go to place for monitor parts. But there are those one off parts that he doesn't have. I am asking in this instance in reference to an issue with a Nanao monitor I have detailed in this post.

The parts that Fry's sells are manufactured by NTE Inc. The website says they are a supplier. Do they simply rebadge parts from other manufacturers? Any opinion on their parts?

thank you!!! personally i have read many who hate NTE brand because they seem to be inferior quality and i think they are just "made in china" junk, but i am sure some transistors that are worked lightly the NTE brand will work. i will say if you don't find something on my site you would be amazed at how much stuff i stock so please ask. i literally get orders of new products everyday and i have orders scheduled delivery though december right now. (some manufacturers lead times are 17-26 weeks). customers contact me weekly asking if i have something that is not on my site and i have thousands of different ttl chips and parts in my repair shop that will probably never make it to the site but i am happy to make my customers orders complete from my repair shop stock and rarely i can't. keep watching all the new products being added almost daily and my stock exceeded 1.5 million pieces at the beginning of the summer and increases daily.

I was under the impression that NTE didn't make anything, it was all rebranded stuff. Not sure though.

To answer the Op's question, basically it's a part by part situation, like you said some things the originals are better, but in general most generic parts are fine in the monitors. A lot of times too you'll find that the parts you need to replace will only have 1 manufacturer anyways.

Like the other guys said though, be careful of the china stuff, they take parts that are common that look like another part and remark them, by the time you use them you end up in a situation where you replace a transistor, and it still doesn't work... so you look for other things being wrong, and end up not finding the problem because the 'new' transistor you put in is the wrong damn part. If it's a cheap part, the chinese stuff is usually legitimate, but if it's something hard to find or expensive chances are HIGH (like 50% or more) that the chinese retailers are selling counterfeit stuff.

Also keep in mind that some of the U.S. sellers have just bought the fake chinese stuff on ebay and have no idea it's fake.

You are the US source. But there's no way you get all of your parts from US manufacturers.

i meant parts not "made in china" specifically and really the list of any company in the usa that makes components is probably small enough to count on one hand. the key to this also is some name brand companies have things made in china but the quality control and specifications are much more stringent then buying made in china "Copies" of good quality parts. i have been dealing with these for many years and sometimes i can't confirm the quality so i don't sell it because i do stand behind my parts and i test them on my 170+ games before selling a new product.

So no idea when the parts will come from China to fix my Astro City cab. The part I need is a Toshiba 2SC4157 transistor. Found out that is equivalent to NTE's part number NTE2311 which is in stock at my local Fry's.

Going to head over there and pick it up. If and when the "OEM" transistors from China ever come, I'll use those as spares.
