I have a SH, and found a battery on power supply board(I have seen this on Tron too). I replaced it ASSUMING it was there for high score save. But high scores are still not saved, so anybody know what it's for?

On my Tron, the battery is there to save high scores. What kind of battery did you replace yours with?

If you replaced it with a cordless phone battery pack, you may have to leave the game running for several hours in order to allow the battery to charge up enough to save the scores.

Or better yet, if you have the cordless phone that the battery would go in then charge it fully in the phone and then hook it up to the game.

If you find one, maybe ask Kevin if he wants one too...that way it'll save my high score on his Tron at the arcade :D

Hi All,
88MPH, How did you know I used a cordless phone bat.??
Thanks to all for the info. I will try leaving it on for a while to recharge an see what happens.

CrazyKong, look for this game at Klassic Arcade in the next week or two! I think I'll order a bat. from BR or from the seller Riptor recommended and install it in Kevin's Tron.

Hehe.. lucky guess based on the mod not working right way. I hope once it gets charged up those scores start to stick!

I was going to say I thought it was a cr2032 then I saw riptor's post and confirmed it.

Funny thing, I saw like a 3 or 4 pack at the 99cent store of those batteries.

Was it a new cordless phone battery?

They last for a while. Mine will be 3 years old in July; then it gets swapped out for a new one on my Spy Hunter.

Yes, I had a few new cordless phone batteries laying around. As a habit I usually remove any original batteries right away and replace them . I have not had a chance to go out and power up game and charge it properly, it's currently 2 degrees outside!

Cordless phone batteries work great as long as they are fully charged when put in the game.

Never had a bit of a problem with mine, even when my spy hunter has been off for 2 months. Occasional play and occasionally turning it on for an hour or two just to recharge has worked very well for me for the last 2.5 years.

I even found the correct connector for my wires from my power board so that I can plug the battery into the connector and literally "hot swap" the batteries with the game on so I don't lose my high scores or calibration info.

Just get some NVRAM... 15 years or so and you won't have to worry about leakage... etc.

There's supposed to be some newer RAM that last 100+ years, I haven't looked into them much because 15 years is fine for me... just saying, if you're in it for the long haul. ;)

They don't behave very well on MCR boards however. You're better off sticking with a battery-backed SRAM (aka "Dallas").
