What if there was no MAME or XXX-1 boards?

I loved arcades as a kid, but without MAME (which I found messing with various emulators) I would never have had an arcade cabinet. This helped me realize how much I used to love Joust as a kid (only playing it 20 times tops). I now own Joust, Joust 2, a New Astro City cabinet along with about 6 PCB's to go in the Astro City cab. I have about 2 more dedicated cabinets that are "must haves" and several boards I would like to have in the Astro. Oh, by the way, my MAME computer mounts on plywood, slides in the Astro and lets me test if I like games enough to buy them.

What's MAME? I started playing arcade games back in the early 80's so MAME had nothing to do with me getting started. I wish there was no MAME, no multiboards, no internet. Haha no more internet of any kind. That would be soooooooo awesome.

Well, without MAME, I doubt we would have access to nearly as much technical information about the games, or ROM sets.
