what happened to your arcade? third and final installment....

in my ongoing "what happened to your arcade" thread, i present to you the last and probably most important proof of arcade's yesteryear. this ihop was once THE place for me and my friends. having mom drop us off with pockets full of quarters seemed like such a big event, and still realize today it was.the picture shows where the actual grand entrance of the arcade was. preceded by a long hallway that started in the actual south shore mall in bayshore on long island. thanks for lettin me share!

Out here in Newark California at the New Park mall in the early 80's there was a Goldmine arcade it was one of the coolest looking with rocks and a big yellow "Goldmine" on top of it,inside it looked like a mine shaft and was really dark and had tons of games my mother whould give my brother and myself $5 each and that whould last us pretty much the day untill she finished her shopping, the Goldmine was replaced with tilt arcade later in the 90's and now it's been replaced with different clothes stores, man that was great times!

I'd love to see those pics of the old South Shore Mall arcade (or "Bay Shore Mall" as my folks used to call it back then). I remember that my mom was always reluctant to let me go into that one...I think it was the long hallway.

Used to love that place......Captree Corners too.

The skating rink I worked at as a kid, "Bojangles", had a pretty good arcade. I was sad to come home from college and find that it had turned into a U-Haul rental center. I got pretty good at fixing vacuum cleaners at that job :)

Our arcades were based on a nickel a game company called Wunderland. Back in the mid 1990's they started to phase the games out and sold them off cheap. REAL CHEAP for Oregon. Then they turned the place into redemption only games with about 10 stupid shooting games. Not classics and no pinball.

But that is soon about to change....

MUAHAHHHAHAHAHAHH!!!!!!!!

right you are bob5150! there was nooo way my mom was letting me down that long hallway either! swarming rumors of a stabbing and drug dealing didn't make her feel any better. i know i have some pics of that mall ( i used to work at merry go round, sids pants and lobel's) and nothing was better than captree corners. you had a german bakery, pizza place, chinese food, burger and hot dog deli, ice cream bar, all in one place! those WERE the days!

busy bee had some pretty awesome games back in the day. tri county flea market in levittown, and if you go waaaay back in the early eighties there was the gardner manor mall on sunrise highway. we're talkin arcade, orange julius, different strokes (for all your heavy metal t-shirts needs) a catwallk that connected sterns to the mall spanning over the street! and for those of you who really think back there was a german deli that was famous for their hot dogs and burgers, and even had a theater where music was preformed and they also had a robotic puppets for a chuck e cheese type show for kid's birthday parties! oh 1980's....why have you abandoned us???
