What game bug or cheat do you know now that you wish you did back in the day?

Not really so much a 'cheat', I just wish I'd had all of these machines at my home back then so I could play them better in the arcades!

was there ever a game that had a bug that would let you play for free without crediting?

Maybe someone else could confirm/deny this, but I think I read here there were games you could credit up with a static shock to the coin door... shuffle feet, touch, spark, play!

That sounds sketchy at best. Electrostatic discharge will make a pcb do crazy things. I think if that "worked," you would have just as much a chance to blow out some IC's on the PCB. We take great pains at work to ensure that ESD does NOT happen at work, since the effects can be anywhere from nothing at all to frying (expensive) chips. This was addressed a few months back on RetroGaming Roundup, although I do not remember the month or segment.

I remember a pinball BITD that was at a bar up north that would give you two free games if you turned it off then back on. Don't know it was a glitch somewhere, but it was pretty awesome. For YEARS I tried it on every other pin I came across...lol

This was an issue with ComputerSpace.

in the mikey wave (ROBOTRON)

all the brains go for mikey. you can shoot the brains closest to him to keep them from killing mikey

The coin switch was wired wrong. Nice booboo made by the Operator.

Not that I recall but there is always the 40 credit trick in Tempest Rom Rev. 1.

This was the best and easiest trick to do I think. The Galaga trick that made it so that the bad guys didnt shoot at you took to damn long and the DKJR trick required spot on timing and some times the game would reset even after you did it.

I actually never knew this until fairly recently. It really doesn't give you much of an advantage though. Was still able to pull 20,000,000 without knowing. :p today I try it sometimes but it seem like a waste to keep mikey alive when you can just use the get every human as fast as you can approach.

Doesn't always work FWIW. Really takes you by surprise when your setting up to keep him alive then all of a sudden theres a ton of Progs on your ass.

Yeah, it was sweet. Got a lot of free tempest time on that one. It was fun to experiment with the last two digits and see what other weird stuff it would do. Of course id do the level 81 trick right after the 40 credit trick. Those were good times indeed. I'm not familiar with the dkjr trick.

True, this happend to me the other day, then a couple hundred grand later I get the shot in the corner bug. Gak!

LOL! Yup, got that at 9.2 million at CAX the year before last. I hated that bug when I paid to play a game. Cant tell you how many Robotron's meet the bottom of my shoe!

DKJR... I think you had to start a two player game. I think... Not 100% sure.

You had to time your jump so that you and the red chomper dude that just came off the vine hit the water at the same time. If the trick worked the second players screen would wig out and be upside down for a second then he would die. The first player would come back with unlimited guys! Lost lots of quarters trying to make that one work.

Happened to me at 18 mil a while back on my own machine, I was pissed, running blue roms too. Argh! They never fixed that bug, anyone that says they did is full of it.

That's a pretty wild trick, I might have to try that on mine.

Isnt it the Blue ROMs that had that bug?

... Heck, I used to wonder what Obi Wan was talking about when he told me to "Use the Force!" I thought it was just a meaningless way to involve you in the game until I owned a SW and stumbled upon it because I got distracted trying to power on and coin up another game for a guest. ...

Care to explain this one? Never heard of it, sounds interesting...
