I have an asteroids game that plays fine, but the player fire sound is just a click, and no ufo sound.(all other sounds work)

anyways, when i was looking around inside the game, i noticed the monitor has only only one fuse on the board. (5a 250v sb) the other one is missing. when i put in the orthe fuse, it blows right away. what is the other fuse for?

The game has always played fine (except the sound issue - help?)
I have had this game for about a year.

Thanks.
chris

Sound has absolutely nothing to do with the monitor.

It would appear that you have a bad bridge rectifier, causing the fuse to blow.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Yeah, i know the sound is unrelated to the monitor, the sound problem is why i had my head inside the game.

Thats when i noticed the missing fuse on the monitor.

why would the monitor still work with a bad bridge rectifier.

is it causing problems playing with that fuse out?

thanks.

Fuse

I guess it is f100 or f101 missing. These are the 30v Legs going in to the deflection pcb. It will run of off one of them but not for long. You need to reflow the solder on the headder pins on the deflection pcb and replace the fuse and the bridge rectifier on the power brick. Also check the large ceramic fuses on the deflection pcb. They get real hot when It runs on one leg. What is the SN on your asteroids? That is a G05-801. They were only used in the early Asteroids.

Asteroids has a very simple sound circuit that is VERY well documented in the manual. Take a look as most sounds are generated by the sound of a cap discharging through an IC...
