What does this Antenna Like Thing do on my Space Invaders Monitor???

I thought this was interesting does it prevent interference? Just bizarre, I have never seen anything like this on a monitor or TV before...

I don't think this should be in the monitor help section, as I am not needing to repair it.

That's the ground spring that is normally touching the tube when the chassis is not separated from the tube. Games like Space Invaders, Sea Wolf, etc have the tube mounted in the cabinet separate from the chassis, so instead of this spring making contact with the tube, there is usually a ground wire with to a piece of metal with some "fingers" on it that contact the tube.

Great answer, makes perfect sense! I was baffled by it! :D

see/learn something new every day.

Interesting, i thought it was to hold your soldering iron...

I was all prepared to explain how it was a rare experimental Space Invaders game with early wireless technology, and that was the antenna, but for some strange reason, I opted for the truth. :D

Yeah, I was going to go with an early experimantal rodent deterrent device.....some silly back story about operators complaining to Midway about mice getting in there cabinets.....so, Midway came up with this "antenna" that emits an ultra-sonic frequency that discourages rodent habitation..............but you beat me with the truth!

You also could have said it was the transmitter back to the real space invaders who were testing us humans for our resistance factor. Thank goodness we are good at video games! :D
