This is on craig's list for $300, He says it is stuck in test mode, I assume he doesn't know to flip the switch (I'm not gonna tell him)

Cabinet is in rough shape. What is your opinion? I can't tell is that duck tape on the sides??

"Hats" off to you if you can fix it up on the cheap :p

Structurally it looks sound, and the monitor works. I wouldn't feel bad about stripping the paint off that mess.

My Galaga's is in that state where I debate using repo art when the original art is in a inbetween state. The side art bezel and marquee are great, but the kick plate and cp have seen better days. The edge of the cp overlay was worn off, to the operator just taped off a 1 inch strip and painted it black. The kickplate art is just worn off to white near the bottom.

What I want is both of these:

They are still on the job the centipede is in perfect shape, the cp just needs cleaning. Obviously the Ms. Pac has some wear.

The duct tape is covering lock bar holes I would imagine. It is not stuck in test from that pic, it has board issues.

Let's ask the question in reverse Dave, how nice do you want it to look in the end? I'm on my 26th ms pac restore and can pretty much tell you what it's gonna cost to make this thing look pristine. If you want it to just function well, you'll spend between $100-$150 Anything beyond that will force a full wallet flushing.

Do you think that the board issues are similar to my Galaga when I got it? It was stuck in the RAM OK message, I pulled every chip and cleaned the pins with an eraser and deox and put it back together and it was working again.

What is your estimate of the value? I wonder if the duct tape on the sides is covering cabinet damage???

When you restored, did you use vinyl side art, or did you repaint? This guy is in the process of repainting (his blog just drops off with the yellow). He got the stencils somewhere but I couldn't find the link.

Back when i started restoring these, there were no stencils available so i've always used the vinyl. If you're still reading this Dave, i'd offer him $150 and keep a spare $50 in the other pocket in case you really want it. If he won't take $200, i'd let it go.

Who is Dave?

Sorry about that, i saw Dokert (Dave) throw a word in there and i stuck his name in. Same goes for you, how nice do you want it to look? i'd offer $200 on the high end and plan on a thousand dollar machine when you're done if you want it pretty. Rebuilt cp, new monitor, bezel, art, marquee, bezel, t-molding, locks and several misc. things will put you right up there.

That cabinet (if the tube isn't burned to shit) as it sits is worth the $300.00 asking price. It's one of the most popular and recognizable cabinets out there. For people like us we don't like the price. Dave (Dokert) just said it himself that PCB has issues. count on $75 - $100 for just buying a replacement board for argumenst sake. And that's not an easy cab to restore either. If you're looking to buy and flip this machine you better make damn sure the cabinet is nice - most non arcade people like the eye candy - no curb appeal no sale. $100 is a good way to get no response. If you want to tire kick this thing you gotta get your foot in the door first.

Well said Deadly, You really need to decide your intentions with this thing, if you're gonna flip it, it's highly unlikely you'll get any more than what you paid for it plus your repairs considering the shape it's in. Looks like a great resto candidate but this will cost you hundreds. Do you really want a Ms. Pac in your collection?

Good pont, Really I should just do as I originally planned make a Ms Pac cabinet from scratch using my Galaga as a template.

Sorry Chris, I was off doing other stuff. I totally agree with you and Deadly on this animal.

I would offer $200-$250 but would pay $300 if they wouldnt budge. It depends, I could get it working easily. If you have to buy a board or pay someone else to fix it I wouldnt go over $300. Yes, its got a board issue judging by the pic. Its likely something simple when you get garbage on the screen like that. Its definitly not stuck in test mode.
