What do you think of my cab designs?

It beats the hell out of people destroying dedicated cabs to make multigames but I think it needs some more time in the oven too.. Too angular.. having that base that is extending nearly as far as the control panel means people will end up kicking the crap out of the base.. the marquee area is disproportionate to the marquee and display.. just my opinion.

BTW - reminds me of the one on the right....

needs t molding and the control panels are too big. they look homemade but well built, aesthetically speaking, in my opinion, they are ugly. they look like what they are - something someone without a whole lot of arcade experience built in their garage. i think you should experiment with some different designs based more on classic cabs to match the artwork.

Looks like it would be Very awkward and uncomfortable to play with No room for your feet you must have to lean towards the machine?? Take a pic with someone playing it, maybe the picture is deceiving

tough crowd

Hi --

kudos for having the guts to post asking for comments Here :)

Your cabinet building skills are tight -- and they look professional. What might be cool is producing your own cabs with a classic "feel". They don't have to be repros, but it's important (here) to pay homage to the classics.

I think a fuller look with less sharp angles. vertical kickplates with coin doors would help.

Also, some cool stenciled side art would be nice (a la Scramble).

Good work though!

I don't think they look bad at all. I'd say for the modern multis like the x-men type stuff, you need just some minor retooling. The angular design and larger control panels fit that type of game better. Making the kick panel a little less "kick-able" is probably a good idea for long term durability- like others have mentioned.

Maybe make a second design- a meatier cab, for the classics. It's a little older crowd so they will probably want something more in line with what they played in the arcades.

This is probably the wrong crowd for this type of thing, but don't get discouraged. These aren't bad design's at all- and you have to remember not everyone likes to have big old clunky cabs in their house- this is meant for a different audience than what comes here. There are a lot of people who would love to have one of these new "low-maintenance" multis in the house. Anyway good work. I think by maybe making two types of cabs and slightly modifying your current design you have a winner.

Also how about some pictures of the internals and the sides- I think that's important too.

These are pretty cool. You should make one with a 'z' back like the red 'z' back cabinets that came out a while back had... just imagine that base you've got right now, but with the back angled like the front (until it gets to about the bottom 8 inches or so, where it goes back out and makes a proper pedastal). Also you might want to experiment with completely abandoning the marquee protruding out on the top of the game, because with the thin LCD it looks strange. Just make the cabinet slope back, and have the marquee on the top above the monitor, not protruding out front. Like the Sega Naomi systems, 18wheeler and Crazy Taxi, etc. (I think those were Naomi!).

Make them more like this, less like the traditional style.

I love the illuminated controls. Think "Tron". More lights.

Maybe if the CP is sticking out so much you could put some LEDs underneath to shine on the kick plate. It would look BAD if it were black lights and some cool graphic that glows under a black light

Yes Yes. I like that idea.

oh....Also i agree with the guy who said you need original company logo marquees

I think if you make a few tweaks in your design, they'll look significantly better.I'd say tone down on the sharp angles. Also I think it would be really cool if you used the original bezel art, side art,CPOs,etc as templates for your own personal designs. I don't know what kind of artistic skills you have, but if you made some custom designed side art,CPO,bezel, etc for whatever game...for example that Galaga....I'd give you HUGE props for that!
