Just started designing and building these a couple months ago, wanted to get some feedback from the Klovers. These are not supposed to be repros - they are new original designs. Anyway - let me know what you think.

Honestly? I don't like them at all. One of the big things that appeals to me about having arcade games, is that they are the original games I grew up playing. These look nothing like original classic games.

That said, I give you credit for building from scratch rather than wrecking a classic with a multi-board.

I think they look really cool, remind me of robots all lined up. I'd up the artwork a little on the DK kickplate and add some side art to all of them. Overall, I like the re-imagining. Keeps things fresh, and no one can bitch at you for converting classics.

Ummm.. guess that's better than molesting classics or using generic Dynamos

Think generic marquees would be better.. put your Arcade KO logo on them

I dont see how multi and MAME guys can get away with advertising machines so openly though.. just sayin

I like the design, just conflicted over the OG artwork on them, the DK's marquee needs to be a little taller to not chop off Paulines head, good clean designs though.

honestly i think the cp is too big. it looks like moving the monitor "out" farther would make it look more proportioned. dont think i am knocking your cab, im not.

I agree actually - this was the first design from paper to MDF so the next round will have some modifications - one of them will be a shorter control panel viz moving the bottom of the screen forward giving the screen a lower angle - (and shortening the cut on the side)

I like to sit on a bar stool when I play, and I think that would be difficult with the base sticking out like that.

The one with the trackball is just a bad layout. You will always be playing off center, which really bothers me. If I am playing pacman or a similar game, I like the stick in the center.

The other control layouts look usable, even though there is a lot of open space on the cp.

Yeah I second this. The CP looks pretty big there.
Though I have to say KLOV really isn't your market. I will say (as others have already done) kudos to you for not converting any classics.
Maybe you'd get better, (and more accurate) feedback over on BYOAC?
Looks like good quality workmanship though...

Yeah - after we made these (these were the 3rd and 4th cabs made) we changed to stop using corner modling for the maruee - now we just cut a 1/8" slot in the top and bottom MDF and sandwich it in - looks much better. These cabs are already glued and screwed so there is no easy way to change the marquee spacing.

The Galaga machine shows the marquee with the slots

Looks like you have some skills building those. I personally would never buy one. They do not look like a classic arcade game. To put that machines next to some of my classics would look horrible.

My suggestion would be Make your cabinets look like Classics. You know how to do wood work, make a Galaga cab put them in that. JMO :)

Not bad but I think they suffer from a lack of CP and kick panel artwork, T-molding on the edges and coin mechs, they look too make-shift without them.

I don't really like the plain CPs - I prefer the ones with artwork myself, but some people seemed to prefer the plain CP.

I think the galaga kickplate looks great - I might stock up on those (if I continue with this)

My wife got me an arkanoid cocktail for our anniversary in January - I started doing some reaearch and converted it to a 60-in-1, then I bought a Galaga and then I started sketching some ideas...

Next thing you know I converted the garage into a full-blown manufacturing floor and built 8 machines. Sold 2 of them, one on ebay and one to my pool guy who came by and saw them. Honestly the pictures don't do them justice.

Anyway I sunk a lot of cash into this - not really doing it to make money, doing it for fun cause I enjoy building them, designing them and playing them. But my hobby is getting kind of expensive (which I am sure many of you can relate to).

The CPs look WAY too big for the controls on them. The ones with CP art aren't as bad, but the solid color on the DK one makes it look really wrong. You want to shorten them up a bit so they don't look so odd. Remember that you've made the cabinet less deep than the originals, and if you don't do the same for the CPs, you're gonna look funny.

I'm not fond of the way they are angled, but that could just be me.

I like them! But I think some sort of side art would really help out.

Yeah - I bought a air compressor and a paint sprayer so I just need to make some stencils.

I made a couple cabinets that have 2nd lit marquee's under the CP above the kick plate and it looks pretty good. I will post some pics.

1) you need some type of bezel art. Flat LCD's and plain black look too boring and cheap.

2) Every cab needs some type of CPO art, but don't go overboard like that one marvel one. Too much looks just as shitty as not enough. Keep it simple, base it off of something classic (the way Willis art was done) and it'll look better.

3) You don't need fancy side art, but a geometric shape is also a little lazy or cheap looking. perhaps invest in some nice vinyl "Arcade KO!" artwork that covers over half of the sides.

4) Not sure you need kickart like that Galaga. At those angles, it's more liekyl to have feet on them, so I'd go with something like a diamondplate kickpanel.

5) as far as cab paint, I'd stick with a mostly black front, and colored sides. Take a cue off of the Mario Bros cab - black front, orange sides, cool...

I won't comment on whether I "like" them or not.

Looks like good cabinet building.

Couple suggestions:

1. T-molding

2. on the 60-1, put the joystick in the center and A + B buttons on both sides. (4 buttons total). That way lefty's and righty's can play, also Pac games are way better with a centered stick.

Have fun with your hobby!
