What do you think is the the ideal cabinet to put Rastan in?

rastan was a great game. I think hands down the best walking side scroller hack and slash.. but I feel like black tiger is a better game is so many aspects.

Yeah, Rastan is one of those games with nostalgic value. Black Tiger is definitely a good game as well. The successor to Rastan was Nastar Warrior. Now that was a crappy game. Haha.

Yes Nastar was horrible, but I like to think of Cadash as the sequel to Rastan. Anyone played Blade Warriors: Rastan Saga III?

Cadash is more of an action RPG and it's up to 4P. I posted pics and video of Prairied1ll0's setup he had at CAX. It's definitely non-linear. You can get lost if you don't follow the story.

But I guess Taito dungeon side scrollers are all similar.

I totally think that the JAMMA Taito GTC 100 Universal cab (DD/Superman) is ideal for Rastan. Making a CP for it is simple since it's just wood and the overlay would go easily on top. I was intent to sell one of my three after CAX but I'm tempted to keep all three and start to collect more if I can keep on getting them in the sub $75 range as I've gotten all three of these. (no none of them worked perfectly when I got them)

I even bought the manual from Pete at CAX for this cab. I have put my Rastan into the Taito JAMMA cab and it works out well. Since Rastan isn't a must have and good for circulation I think that the drawer makes it ideal. I secretly hope that replicas of these could be built cause they are just as signature and useful as a HS1 but aren't nearly as bulky and heavy.

more info about the cab:

Maybe DP will someday build these generics. The drawer makes them super nice for swapping boards.

Gotta love RASTAN....

.....the one at CAX was actually mine! This was my 2nd year going to CAX and brought 6 of my games (thanks Dan for hauling them!).

I attached a few pics I got of my 'Random Jamma Horizontal Lineup'. Toki (conversion from Joust cab), Buster Bros. (monitor went out on original cab, had to put in a Neo Geo at the last minute) & Rastan - Pic #3 has my 9yr old son, both my boys had a great time at CAX!! It was cool seeing lots of people actually playing games from my collection.

Pic #4 - someone out there (probably a KLOVer) has a cool chic that actually plays them!!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think mine is an original kit in a dynamo(?) cabinet - no side art, but I don't think it was ever another game....

RASTAN!!!

It seems like such a simple side-scroller...a copy of so many other game...almost generic.

That said I can't get enough of it. I think Rastan is the game I played the most of a CAX. It's such an awesome game. I need to get one one somehow.

Rastan is what it is. Bad ass game. Hard as hell. Killer soundtrack. Power up weapons. Beautiful colors and graphics which were only found in a few titles during a very short time in arcade history. I'd easily put this game as one of the 100 greatest arcade games. If I didn't completely suck ass at the game, i'd own one. Oh well, atleast i got it on my mame cab.

Back on point though, I prefer the cabinets for rastan which display the most amount of artwork on the control panel. That being said, my 3d model of Rastan that I made months ago is in a classic Taito cab.

It probably was another game. That cpo isn't a Rastan cpo.

I agree. And a DD Taito cab would eliminate most of the cpo art. So it would have to be a Dynamo or Williams cab or something with a large enough control panel area.

Never even thought about that one....

....that's weird, I've owned this machine for close to 2 years now and never even noticed or thought about the CPO! It has the Taito logo on front - I knew the colors didn't seem right but never thought about it.

I've looked at pics online of the correct ones and it never occurred to me, woa...:)

I spent a few minutes looking through the database for other Taito games around the same time. I figured probably the year before and then maybe someone swapped it out. Blammo - it was a 1986 Alcon CPO!! I suppose maybe the CPO was mismatched from the start, but unlikely.

Here's the original CPO pic I found:
