What Do You Guys Use to Hold Quarters in Your Arcades?

To go along with the high scores thread, I had this question too. I think there's a certain charm in having to actually coin up my games instead of using freeplay. So what kind of things do you guys use to hold a giant pile of quarters for arcade use? Right now I don't have anything, it's pretty much just a pile of quarters on a nearby desk. I'm open to ideas!

Seriously though, I've seen people just use an extra coin bucket from a game.

For the games I have that don't do freeplay, I just line the quarters up on the marquee rail or the bezel rail. Seems to work the best. :)

So you actually stick a dollar in there every time you need a quarter?

On a related note, do you guys charge people to play when they come over?

I feel like I need to find like a Pac-Man cookie jar or something. I have some Pac-Man glasses, maybe that would work...

I just leave them in the coin box, the kids pull the quarters out, then put them right back in.

sometimes my kid has more fun with the quarters than the game. I came down to find him playing dk3, with 58 credits. the lid to the table was locked, so he did not use the service switch.

Depends, if I want people playing the games a nice glass bowl. If I don't, condoms.

Nah, I have it set to free play, hooked a cherry switch up to the "test" circuit so that when the dollar bill drawer is pushed in, it dispenses 4 tokens.
And no, I don't charge anyone when they come over.

I also have a old change machine.

You dont need a fully working one, find a fellow collector or op that has a old dead changer..

as long as one hopper motor works , thats all you need.

In my rowe, i wired the hopper motor to a pushbutton switch and voila, free play.

I also converted my games to 25mm tokens, as my quarters had a tendancy to "walk away" after parties.

Sometimes the tokens still do, but they always come back.

search quarter token conversion.. i wrote up a little lame article awhile back.

I want to have midgets that walk around with bowls of quarters balanced on their heads.

Most of my games are on freeplay, except 2. I have a plastic quarter dispenser for those games and the coin bucket in the Space Duel is full of 'em too.

My token holder is an Applebee's to go container. It's black, round, and non-descript....okay, so it just happened to be the first thing I grabbed on my first ever game night and it just kind of stuck. I'd love to have one of those little coin changers that is meant to bolt on to the side of a game.

All of my machines take tokens and I have a change machine as well. It was a very expensive task, though. I modded as many coin mech's as I could to take the .900 size tokens, but some of my mechs were plastic and would not mod, so I had to buy a shitload of .900 mechs.

I love having the tokens rather than the quarters, but looking back it's one of those things that I probably shouldn't have spent sooo much money on. Then again... I've spent a lot more on a lot less in my life! LOL
