I know that most if not all of us in here are old school gamers but what do you guys think about this game gate thing? Its a supposedly fully legal cabinet that houses an Xbox360 or PS3 that I (as an operator) can charge for time. It comes out of the box at $1.00 per 5 minutes although I think I'd change that to $0.50 for 3 minutes.

I just dont see how they are legal and am skeptical as to how many people would pay to play the game they can play at home?

Thoughts?

From the manufactures web page...

"The Game Gate VU, the revolutionary licensed coin-operated machine using home market hardware, is now available and ready for immediate shipment ex-USA."

I take that to mean EXCEPT the USA.

When you click on distributors they only list that they can sell into Africa, Australia and Europe.

That was my initial thought but then Guitar Hero Arcade did very well for us.

I think guitar hero is a bit different. The fact it has a unique controller, is a dedicated game and by design it has a certain "look at me" factor sets it apart. If someone made a full dedicated a title like call of duty or something along those lines, I could see kids playing it. I think the fact that this is a generic machine that basically runs console systems is why it will fail. It has no unique draw. It's really just a pay version of the displays at toys r us and department stores. I don't really even see kids playing those for free any more. I don't know the numbers for the PC 10 BITD and maybe I'm an exception but I dropped very few quarters in the PC 10 when I saw it in the arcade since I had a nintendo at home.

Isn't this pretty much just like a PC10 but for XBox/PS3? PC10 sucked... what makes you think this would be any different?

I've seen this thing in the US and played around with it at trade shows. It is available here in the US but they've had some switching around with distributors - for a while it was done through Sega and then it wasn't.

They also have a Kinect version of this. I am very familiar with iGames and they do take care of the licensing problems nicely so there is no need to worry about the GG.
