What do we do with the parts that no-one (seems) to want ?

Well, over the last 6 months that i have been either lurking or participating in this forum, it seems that some stuff is getting chucked out when there is no apparent interest in or need for an item (or inconvenient to sell on/package up etc)

From experience over the last 8 months i have been researching and collecting parts for a MsPacman cocktail, and the only reason i have been successful in collecting such parts is the willingness of collectors to retain even the insignificant parts.

So my thought is this - what if the unwanted parts went into a parts library that people could access when needed ? a recent example of this is pacman filter boards. maybe instead of binning them, send them to the parts library so that in the future when someone needs one, and they cant find one, they can ask the library ... A library could also be a list of stuff people have repaired that may be availalble for fixing a game for a collector in need...

just a thought! what do people think ?

First off, I don't know why anyone would want a Pac-Man filter board, as they cause more problems than they fix.

Second, I NEVER throw parts away, which explains why I'm tripping over shit all the time.

My opinion is - if someone is willing to pay shipping, they can add another $5-10 as compensation for sticking it in a box and driving it to the post office...

I've been placing my unwanted parts in a library of sorts for years. The problem is, the library gets too full and i have to call the number on the side of it to have it moved to a much larger library.

That's the one!

good to know i am not the only hoarder of stuff! especially spare parts.

the filter board i thought was an example for this very reason - i picked it because for the sake of completeness/originality of pacman/mspacman IMHO each owner of one of these games must have one! whether it is connected and used or not, that's a matter of best operational practice and practical advice from those in the know here (thanks modessitt)! hmm .. there's an idea for another discussion thread in there.

I second what mod said about the pac filter boards. They have no use and nobody wants them. I hate throwing things away too so I was trying to find a use for the filter boards. I thought maybe I could use them to make adapters but that ended up being more work than it was worth....I threw a pile of them in the trash a couple months ago.
Anyone that has been to my place knows I dont usually throw anything away.

There's one major flaw in your plan. Throwing stuff out is much cheaper and easier than boxing it up and mailing it somewhere. I've thrown out parts that I'm sure someone somewhere could have used but where do you draw the line? Most people don't have time to sell stuff for no profit. Let alone ship stuff for free.

Good idea but it will be tough to make it happen.

I have some Ms. Pac Cocktail control panel parts. Do you need anything on that front?

Hmm. i have the main cp with overlays, and joysticks with bolts, but still need
2 x 9" control panel support pans,
2 x start buttons
4 x Control Panel Retainer brackets (zed brackets)
2 x pairs of the timber CP side panels (with or without t molding)
set of bolts/screws to assemble the cp (i can get new from mikesarcade)

Cheers!

I'll be the Library. All of you can send me anything you want (arcade-related) at your own expense.

When you need something back, I'll tell you that it is no longer available...

Soon it will be almost impossible to find parts for games.

from fullsize machines down to bits and brackets etc. more and more arcade related stuff is

going to the dump.the concept of an archive or library is a good idea ; however space any

where today is expensive and demand is very low now for arcade stuff.

Think carefully before you throw it away or even sell it, because you may never get it back

if you change your mind.

i love to throw shit away after you have been in this hobby long enough, done a few bulk buys and have been given your share of water logged crap you just dont care anymore. throw the crap away if no one wants it for free it is junk
