I just bought a two slot Neo Geo in a Missile Command cabinet, and frankly, I think it's worth restoring. The cabinet is in terrific shape, corners still very solid, no bottom tearing or floor scraping, and the sideart is unbelievably still intact and not painted over. There's a minor scuff or two for sideart, but otherwise we are talking board, wiring, CP parts and CPO, marquee. Am I missing anything here? Obviously the innards are the tough part. What is the rarity of MC boards and how is it to wire up?

I've seen MC boards for $125 on greedbay, but I don't know if they are actually selling at that price.

You also need the sound board, and appropriate power supply. I'm told it's not that hard to use a modern switcher, so whatever is powering the Neo Geo is probably fine. Other folks on here have used a modern switcher.

If you want an original power supply (you don't really need it), I have a cocktail missile command that you can have supply out of. It's got some internal wiring (but not the connector to the board). I think you'll be happier with a modern switcher, though.

If you decide to go all original, I have a complete wiring harness from a working MC UR for no charge. But, yeah, I expect you to use it for the project... not see it on ebay the next day:Dafter you give up on said project.;) But, I guess there wouldn't be much I could do about it. I've become jaded in this hobby.:p Good luck:)

don't forget the monitor plexi that has the base names printed on them. Somone on here did a batch of repros about 1 year ago, so there may still be some floating around.

i was thinking of getting that one for the same reason to restore it lol but with my first 2 snags i had to pass (just got back from hd matching paint for the ninty castlevaina i got there)

did it still have the power suply board in it or was it completly gutted if it was gutted you will need the ps setup as well as the board, marquee ,track ball, cone buttons (didnt see if it had thoes intact )marquee ,harness and i dont rember if the missle commands had a sound board as well or not

(i wanted that mini missle command but the owner bought it back )

heres some info if you have not found it yet

The back door sheet is about all that is left, that and the monstrous iso fuse block. No matter, it will find its way back to glory! I almost bid on that Castlevania, but it looked like a lot of work that I wasn't willing to do :)

the castlevania is really not that bad strip the side art bondo a few small parts by the moulding and a cap kit i already did the cap kist and the monitor looks awsome
going to do the bondo work tommorow if there is no rain
in the end i really only got it for the monitor and vs board cant beat a good monitor and vs board for 60 $(monitor for my wide body and board for my red tent )but i sold my wide body yesterday so im going to resto this one instead

ill post up a resto thread once i get in deep lol

I got:

an unpopulated original control panel thats in good condition

an unpopulated control panel that has had a overlay applied to it

a new control panel overlay

a new (I believed) NOS 3" ball

1 trackball unit that needs to be rebuilt.

You can see the control panels here (click on control panels for sale or trade to the right of the page) http://www.flickr.com/photos/djdns

I'm open for trades so you can keep your cost down to restore, if not you can purchase something if you need it.

Thanks for the control panel and trackball parts. The control panel is in really good shape. Question for everyone? What size of cone is needed for the LED lights? The long or short ones?

I think the ball is 4 1/2", I might be wrong??

MC

You will also need a Missile commander. My 1 year old can handle that job. Actually he is 2 now. Old pic.

you probably also want a board that does NOT randomly reset on you like Bill Carlton's. Mind you....I think they figured out his resetting was due to a software issue. Luck of the draw I guess?? Good luck on your project

Everyone calls it a 4" trackball but it's actually 4.5", the MAXI Atari trackball. Best trackball ever made IMO. As stated before, don't forget the smoked plexi with the base names on the bottom and player 1/2 on top. I think the font is "eurostyle" or something close. Mine has a clear plexi with the smoked in front. A classic cabinet worth restoring!

So far so good. I had a bit of trouble getting new shafts for the trackball rebuild. Post office lost them twice before the seller sent them practically crated to get to my house. I now have the board, audio board, trackball parts, control panel, most buttons. Really I just need the marquee, a non led button, and to find out what size bolts are needed to mount the trackball unit to the control panel. So far I've kept everything NOS and original. Everyone's help has been great so far.

You've got my machine....

I'm glad you are restoring it.

I thought it would have made a good project, but I no longer had the original parts.

Good luck!

It really is a great project cab. Original power supply still there, side art in fantastic shape, and corners and cabinet shape with almost no damage. It was those factors that made me decide to restore it, otherwise it would still be a neo geo.
