Hey,

I'm trying to get my Kickman fixed before my party on Saturday, and just figured out that it's got a bad Z80-CTC. Does anyone know other common boards besides MCRs use them? I know they're cheap and I can buy them, but I need it today.

I've got a bunch of boards in my shed, and I know I've seen the CTC on others... just can't think of which ones. I have two other parts MCR CPU boards, but both of them have bad CTCs as well (different problems... one prevents the board from booting, one won't coin up... and the one that's in there is glitchy and resets when it gets warm). :-/

Thanks,

The CTC is the Counter/Timer Circuit. It's a 28 pin helper chip to the Z80... lots of times I see it with a Z84 prefix. In the Kickman manual, it's the MK3882 part.

Which Nintendo boards used them? I don't think I've got any Poker boards laying around anymore, though it is usually junk boards like that where I see them.

Thanks,

That was just for the stock Z80. I assumed the CTC was just a designator, not a different chip.

The MCR games share the same architecture:

Games supported:
* Solar Fox
* Kick
* Satan's Hollow
* Tron
* Kozmik Krooz'r
* Domino Man
* Wacko
* Two Tigers
* Journey
* Tapper
* Timber
* Discs of Tron (Squawk n' Talk)
* NFL Football (Squawk n' Talk + laserdisk)
* Demolition Derby (Turbo Chip Squeak)

Early MCR systems have three PCBs, which can be intermixed to a certain
degree:

Yeah, the CTC is a separate counter/timer: https://www.twistywristarcade.com/processors-40-pin-ics/531-z80-ctc.html .

And yeah, I have a couple MCR parts boards, but neither of them have a good CTC chip. :-/

I have a shed full of arcade parts, so I was hoping someone knew of another board that I might have, that would have a CTC chip that I could pull from. I come across them every now and then (for some reason the Z84 part number always jumps out at me), I just can't remember where. I'll have to dig through my shed when I get home tonight.

Thanks... I ended up finding one on a Strikes and Spares pinball board.
