If you had to play for your life - against an unknown opponent - which game would you choose (of the more famous, classic arcade games)?
Write something here and if you have a moment, please click on your response on the poll on my blog. I have listed 16 of the most popular games.
Just wondering what everyone thinks they are good at. I was at college when Pac-Man ruled and yet I could never make my quarter last for too long. I was okay at Track & Field, but some folks ran right by me. If I had to choose, I'd choose Galaga. Win or die.
Make your choice on the poll...

I'd say "of the more famous, classic arcade games" is pretty subjective, but using the list of 16 in your poll I selected
Robotron based on my current skills, since I recently rolled the score counter at 10 million, and to do that you have to roll the wave counter at 255 as well (that happens at around 7 million) so the game returns back to wave 1 at reduced difficulty, as if you started a new game. I'm just average on most of the other games in your poll, a couple I've played maybe a dozen times total in my life (hello
Defender and
Track & Field) and a couple I've never played at all (
Street Fighter II and
Tetris).
If this question was asked a couple of years ago when I was playing
Donkey Kong regularly I would have selected that, as I was on the verge of getting a kill screen when I got busy getting married, buying a house, moving, and buying more games and putting together a game room, etc. I stopped playing
Donkey Kong and really haven't ever got back to it yet, and my skills have atrophied I'm sure. My best score is 778k. My best run on a single man in that game is 552k.
If I had to select one classic arcade game to play against an unknown opponent, though, it would be
Wild Western. I have seen evidence of only maybe three other players who are capable of maxing the score at 1 million like I have, whereas with
Donkey Kong there are dozens of verified kill screen players and I think over a half dozen have since surpassed 1 million on that game. Same with
Robotron; there are lots of talented
Robotron players out there. I don't know how many of them are active today but there are enough that I'd rather take my chances with
Wild Western. I'm an expert
Kicker player too, but that game is relatively easy compared to
Wild Western, which will kick you in the nuts.
