I think I ID'ed this as a Wells Gardner U2000. Am I correct? I pulled this from my Die Hard.

If so, is this a hard one to do a cap kit on? This would be my first one.

I can't ID the board for you but it does look very simple to do a cap kit on. None of the caps are difficult to get to and WG boards are usually well marked. Just be sure to match polarity before installing the new caps.

Yeah, that looks the same. If you have a manual check a few random components to make sure the board matches the schematics. I always do this before ordering parts.

Also looks like a K7400/K7500. See that sticker on the board in the lower left of your photo? Should start with WGMxxxx-whatever. What's it say? That'll tell us the model number...

I saw the cap kit was only 7 dollars through Bob Roberts. Might attempt this then. Theres a local guy I could pay, but it would be alot more then $7 then.

I guess I can attempt it, and if I screw it up, he can fix it.

What's wrong with it now? Very common to see cold solder and lifted traces around the drive transistors on the neckboard. Those little heat sinks on them suck ass....

The screen is black except for a horizontal line down the middle. I thought I also smelled an electical burn type smell when it did that. It hasnt changed.

Look for Ken Layton's posts about the U2000/U5000 mod, it looks like yours has not been done. Also, the flyback appears to have a burn hole near the top but I could be mistaken. If you need a flyback, I think Chad at Arcadecup sells them. Personally, the U2000/U5000 chassis' give me fits.

Well, I guess I might be stuck fixing it myself regardless. I still planned on doing it, but I called the guy that worked on some of my other chassis to see if he still does it or a general price, and he said he won't work on these particular boards.

I will say though, the fact that he wont work on these scares me a little.

I will be in VA for four months (Virginia Beach area), I'll gladly troubleshoot it one weekend if it is not fixed by then. I need something to do while there...

I appreciate the offers from everyone. But I figure I will attempt this first. Got to learn sometime. Then if I do it wrong, I will get someone to do it probably.

I got my cap kit in the mail today. Holy crap, didnt realize there was that many to do. Looks to be about 30. Figured this might take me a while. With the kids and all, dont know how much free time I will have to do it all at once. I am probably gonna have to spread it over a couple days. Just need to keep track of whichs ones I have done as I go.
