What causes Folks to 'Leave' the hobby?

I'd probably slow down on my collection after awhile, even if I ever do stop I'll probably keep some of my games.

I do really like the help and info i've gotten from the forums here! I do find it better that I manage my time I spend doing this stuff now days.. dang this hobby is addictive! ;)

I guess I second most of what people are saying here. I am still in the hobby and love it, I have however (with the economy) tried to refocus my energies on getting my masters degree and making myself more marketable just in case I lose my job. At first it didn't seem so bad, but it has really sucked the life out of my time. Not to mention, the wife and I decided that we should really focus on getting our financial house in order (not that its bad), just in case something happens job wise we are in a better position.

I have picked up a few games since I have gone down this path, so its not a total wash, I have just backed away some what due to time and money constraints.

My observations are basically a lot of people are doing what we are doing and really trying to watch their spending and prepare in case something does happen to them. If it comes down to a choice between eating and Donkey Kong.... Jump man is out...

Reading most of the posts, I think that the problem we're facing is basically the same:

We're getting older with all the resposabilities and duties that implies having a family

(sons, families, loans, bills, illness, divorces in some cases)

this beautiful passion, as we all know, comes from the heart

our child's heart

these games made us dream and this is only reason why we step up first to buy them with big bucks

money is a tool not the end for a arcade collector

and still today we keep loving these machines

But life goes on and we are forced to face the everyday life with its problems

Most of the klover's has admited that these last years really have been painful (and they have been - for real!)

it is easy that when the choice is food or Dk - "jumpman" jump off

That's life

But as said by most , even now havign to focus on building or finishing to build our new house, the passion still is present

As 60 years pinball collectors, it will come the time, family problem will pass and we'll have the money and the time (plus the experience and less hiped prices) to recollect teh games sold for the monthly payments

We've got to Keep it up

it is a moment,

it will pass

Reading forums like these and realizing that there are so many idiots in the world is a real turnoff.

It wouldn't cause me to 'leave' the hobby- it's just a sad fact of life..

I'm just sayin'...
