What can I do in a Gauntlet Legends cabinet?

I'm thinking about picking up a Gauntlet Legends cabinet and I'm wondering what all I can do in the cab in terms of switching games.

Klov shows it having a medium res monitor and I think its a 27" factory. Does anyone know if this can be switched to standard res for compatibility with other jamma boards?

I believe the game also uses optical 49way joysticks. I'm wondering if I could drop a blitz jamma into this cabinet and re-use the joysticks/harness? I have all 3 blitz games to try. What other games use these 49way optical sticks?

I'm also curious about upgrades to the cabinet. I think you can upgrade to Gauntlet Dark Legacy. I'm also curious about what other vegas boards I could swap in? Could I convert it to a sportstation for instance with nbajam/blitz combo?

Thanks..

I think some of the monitors in Gauntlet Legends cabs may be switchable between standard and medium res. I'd check the chassis for a switch, and/or get a manual for the monitor.

The swap to other vegas games is usually a security chip, one or more ROM's and a hard drive. You can get the chips from ebay or a guy on this board. The drives are the same way, but I'd reccomend buying a compactflash card and IDE adapter and getting a CHD image of the drive to make your own.

I know some if not all of the Blitz games require an I/O board between the joysticks and the main board.

I've already converted my hd based games to cf so I'm fine with that process. I was thinking Gauntlet Legends would also have this IO board to operate the 49way sticks. Is that a Blitz specific thing? I was thinking it was needed for all games with those joysticks.

Have you had success with making a CF card work in a gauntlet legends or Dark legacy? I tried it on mine a while back and it wouldn't boot
. I'd love to replace the hard drive with a quiet, vibration proof drive.

No.. I don't have the guantlet legend cab yet, still working on getting it. Hopefully this weekend.

I have compact flash converted Killer Instinct, NFL Blitz 97, NFL Blitz 99, and NFL Blitz 2k Gold. I do plan on trying to do Gauntlet when I get the cab.

You could curl up and take a nap in that thing.
I was thinking the same thing.

Also don't forget about Gauntlet Dark Legacy.

Global VR's madden football seems to take the same 49 way sticks but i think its vga resolution.

The upgrade to GDL is easy; mostly question marks around converting to other Vegas games. I looked into this a few months ago and everyone seemed to indicate that the graphics card in the boardset might not be up to the task.

At some point I might replace the 49 way joysticks in mine with 8 ways, throw the appropriate switch for GL to say that it should use 8 way sticks, and then I can have some flexilibity to use other JAMMA games too.

Some of the other Vegas board games use a different video card and the games need a specific card to run. The System 16 site has all the details.

Got a link? :)

I don't see any difference listed on there between the hardware. The specs pretty much look the same?

Does anyone know for sure if Gauntlet Legends has an i/o board between the joystick and jamma board?

The I40 board is what you're referring to.

The I40 isn't necessary. The JAMMA harness is what matters. If you have a 4player harness you can simpy change out the proms (possibly video card as some only use 3DFX) and you're golden. If you need to add 2 players you need to ensure the harness has the wiring for P1 and P2. P3 and P4 plug directly into the Vegas boardset.

Does anyone know if the dedicated version of Gauntlet Legends with the 27" monitor supports standard resolution on the monitor? Klov lists it as medium res.

It's the video card is where I was getting stumped. I could never get a solid answer if a GL Vegas boardset could be switched to an NBA Showtime w/o changing graphics cards.

I think there's a switch for it. By default it is definitely medium res.

I was told there is a medium res in the cabinet, I'm wondering if that monitor has an option to be switched to standard res mode to support more games in the cabinet? This is the dedicated 27" not the larger 39" version.

I would highly doubt that monitor is switchable.

And just because KLOV says medium res doesn't mean at some point and time someone slapped a CGA in there. I'd ask the seller to give you the monitor model/part # to be sure. If it's a medium res tube it can increase the value of the machine.
