What cabniet is this!!!?? Radarscope? Dk? Playchoice 10!!!

Hey everyone.... Im a new member and recently purchased a Playchoice 10 (75 bucks can you believe it?) i got everything working but im curious what machine this used to be. The serial number is for radar scope (TRS UP US.... But the monitor has Donkey Kong burn in. I should note that the monitor is the original monitor (Sanyo ez 20). The cabniet is also red.. But it now has playchoice 10 side art.

I want to thank you guys for providing a treasure trove of knowledge since I was able to rebuild the monitor with all your help. So forgive me if my knowledge on machines is not up to everyone elses.

So any help or insight on this machine would be greatly appreciated.
Heres a picture of the machine and the serial numbers...

It's a Radar Scope, not a DK. The factory converted Radar Scope to DKs had all of the Radar Scope tags and indicators removed and Nintendo went into great detail to do it.

Based on the Tags, it was a Radar Scope that was then converted into a Playchoice 10.

The DK monitor burn could be from a swapped in monitor, or it could be that the Radar Scope was a field convert to DK and then later converted to Playchoice.

Not a factory DK convert though. There's no way they would have that TRS tag on there.

Thanks everybody!!!!! The donkey kong burn in def threwbme off considering you can see the monitor used to be vertical and now its horizontal. Another thing I was confused about was the black T molding. Every nintendo cab i look pictures of have white T molding. So if it was ogficially converted to a Donkey Kong they would have removed the Radarscope serial number and replaced it with a new one? Thanks again everyone I can't tell you how exciting it is to own this!!!!

You going to keep it a PC or back to RS or DK? Prob worth the most as a DK. Should be a RS but all three would be cool. PC10 does look great in red.

I'm thinking keeping everything a playchoice since thats the only board that was in there and maybe buying a Dk board and having 2 in 1. My son really loves the NES games so its nice having 10 games to chose from. What would you guys do if it was your machine? Ive only spent 125 bucks total so far on it including the price i bought it at to get the sanyo monitor working (new flyback, capkit, pots, hot, q902, ic601). Anything I replace goes in a big box so i keep all the original parts I replace even if they are broken just in case!!!! But I would love ideas!!!!

PC-10 is horizontal, DK is vertical. You can't really run both in that cab without a bunch of effort to turn the monitor every time you want to swap. Not to mention the wire harnesses are not the same.

That was originally a Radarscope cab. At some point (maybe even at the factory) it was converted to a DK cab. Then later it was converted to a PC-10.

Since the monitor is already rotated horizontal, I'd keep it as a PC-10.

VERY little chance that was a DK from the factory. We've seen lots of the TKG2 Donkey Kongs and on every single one Nintendo went to lengths to make sure everything said "TKG2" and that anything that had TRS on it was removed. That goes for the serial tags, the backdoor sheets, the sticker on the monitor, and they also placed stickers of the TRS markings on the boardsets as well.

One thing you can do to help verify is open up the back door and see if the original monitor sheet is still stapled there. If so, it should indicate what the game was originally.

That T-Molding is not original.

I'm also not sure that turning it into a DK would bring the most value. I've seen a couple of Radar Scopes being passed off as DKs sit unsold. Collectors want the real thing and the true conversions have commanded increasingly higher prices.

The other thing is that true Radar Scopes are rare and the market seems to be increasing for them. I bet you could get $1000 or more for a decent Radar Scope these days. Finding the parts would be a bitch though.

If it were me I'd leave it as a playchoice and try to slowly accumulate Radar Scope parts. Then I'd de-convert and sell if I didn't want the Radar Scope. There are lots of people out there looking for early Nintendo cabs like Radar Scope, Helifire, Sherrif, etc.

Oddoaked32, if you do a search for "Radar Scope Tag Data" you'll find a thread that has everything you want to know and more about the early DK cabs.
