Brand/ model ect. Assuming you own one of course. Need to buy one and curious what other people own and what they think of the quality of the product. Obviously being a KLOV member I'd like to find something cheap. I'd be willing to pay more for quality though. although I don't expect to be doing a ton of erasing or burning roms just yet as I'm pretty new to this and have no clue what I'd doing just yet.

I have one that is built into the programmer. It is a Kontron. I cannot get the programmer to work without the instruction manual, but the eraser can do 2 or 3 chips at a time.

Here is the one I have, I actually have two of them. We erased a little over 400 eproms the other day with them.

I wouldnt worry about the brand, its just a light box. I would reccomend one with a timer and something that does at least 6 or more at a time. Sure you probably will only do a couple at a time but its nice to be able to do more when you need to.

I have that same one but picked up a HUGE one that will do about 100 EPROMs at a time as I go through a LOT of EPROMs. It got a workout yesterday prepping for the MGC event. ;)

FYI, if you're just "repairing" original EPROM chips with their factory image to clear up bit rot, you don't need to erase them first.

It screams cheap Chinese crap

Hehe, yeah it does don't it......
I have one also.
Does fine for the general hobbiest.

And as Riptor mentioned early on, it's just a light box.....literally, a box with a light bulb.
(UV light bulb of course)

Biggest differences between an el' cheapy and a better one is really just material the case is made from (plastic/metal) and capacity (bigger box, more bulbs).

I think mine does around 30-40 at a time, depending on the size of them. Somewhere in that neighborhood. With two running I cant check them faster than it erases them so it doesnt really matter.

I've got the same one Rip has, and i love it. I did put a new bulb and starter in it when i got it. I run it for 15 minutes, and that will mostly erase them, occasionally i'll throw one back in for 5 minutes.

I've got a cheap one. I don't know what brand. It so cheap the only thing it says on it is "Eprom eraser". I can only erase three at a time. hehe.

Mine looks like the cheap Chinese ones posted earlier, but I think mine only says "ON" next to the switch.

The instructions were virtually unintelligible. One line stood out though as a helpful warning: "Warming: Not to put eye in drawer when light on" (yes it did say 'Warming').

The timer on mine is useless. I just put in my EPROMs, turn on the unit, and then wait 5-10 minutes and turn it off.

Mine only turns on the light with the timer. I usually just turn it all the way. It is probably about 20 minutes. I have only had to put 2 back in the oven so far.

The timer is loud and annoying. I would disable it, but I would probably forget that I had it on and leave them in there for days.

For those of you guys that purchased the cheap chinese version, what setting on the timer do you use?

On mine, the instructions sortof indicated that it was calibrated in minutes, but it seems to be calibrated in 10s of minutes (i.e. 1 = 10 mins, 2 = 20 mins, etc.).I usually set mine for 2 and if I remember at about 15 minutes shut it off manually.

So far it has never not shut itself off, but I don't want to take chances.
