With the over/under coin door, that would make it either a Dig Dug, Kanagaroo, or an Arabian. Quite the modifications they did to it though. Very interesting.

i for got it had a road riot 4wd is what was in it, (i couldn't remember what i was told and i just remembered) just was wondering what it started life as... well if it is one of those... can i put a centipede cp and the centipede guts in it?

I believe that a Centipede control panel is the same width and should go on there with a little work.

reason for asking that is.... i have a centipede right now but i am giving it to my dad for christmas and me and the wife have been playing the hell out of it and we like playing it..... so if the stuff will go in and be able to play it i might take it that route.. i already have the arII and know where a marquee and cp are and maybe a board...... that gets about everything i need other than a wire harness.... hummmmmmm

I once had a Hydra in a Centipede cab. The sides of mine were painted black but it had the same foot pedal.

Dig Dug, Kangaroo, or Arabian....without finding a model number/serial number tag (or some hidden art under all that black paint), it's impossible to narrow it down beyond those three. Those three used the exact cabinet.

The control panel area is strange....it almost looks like a Pole Position panel.

And yes, a Centipede panel will fit on there without any problems.

so i need to see if there is anything under the kick panel paint? the sides a formica or something its not just a sticker....

There's no art on the front. Sorry, I figured the sides were vinyl sticked. Any previous art is gonna be on the sides. Does it still have a seriel/model number sticker? They're usually on the back panel above the backdoor. It could be painted over....or peeled off.

centipede and dig dug were not the same cabinet. they are a little different specially in the cp area. i went through this with a dig dug a had many years ago. here is a quote from diamond dave back in 2004.

The control panels are different from Centipede to Dig Dug, the DD ones are thicker, also the cabinet dimesions are different, I tried to take some of the inner wood pieces out of a DD to rebuild a Centipede, and they didn't fit

The obvious difference between Centipede and Dig dug cabs is the coin door. Let alone anything else.

The CP looks like it was designed for a steering wheel... and of course the gas pedal pretty much says the same thing.

Not a Z-back but something called an Angled Cab. It's in the thread.

As I stated earlier, the cab that you have is either a Dig Dug, Arabian, or a Kangaroo. It is, without a doubt, one of those. You can see the original Atari power supply, the Atari PCB holder on the bottom side, the Atari test/coin counter panel, and the little square 1.5" x 1.5" block for screwing in the Atari PCB. These are all unique to Atari. The Centipede cab is very similar to the 3 listed above, however the angles were cut just a little different and it had a square cut corner at the bottom back (not angled). Plus, as stated above, the dead give away is the over/under coin door. Centipede had the old style.

That being said, it has been HEAVILY modified. You can see all the extra wood that has been added to the inside of the cab. You can also see the 4 screw holes on the side of the control panel area where there is a piece of particle board to help hold the original control panel.

FYI, I also just took off my Centipede control panel and put it on my Dig Dug cab. Fits just fine. It is a little loose but it is the proper width and could easily be made to fit just fine.

there was a spot where the wood stuff was a little loose i looked under it and it was just partical board. no serial numbers on anything.... i wasn't doubting the fact of it being atari

I would also like to mention that Quantum used the over under coin door in a similar cabinet but it had art work on the front, not a black front, the area leading up to the marquee was much smaller as well. Your cabinet appears to have been made for a horizontal mount monitor which is throwing me off as DigDug and Arabian were both vertical mount. Perhaps they rotated the frame in the cabinet.
