What are your favorite dungeon crawler/fantasy themed games? GO!

I think that:

Black Tiger is to Magic Sword

is the same as

Rastan is to Cadash.

I liked the link-ed game feature-a lot.

I thought it was cool that you could have two different parties exploring two different areas at the same time.

But, for some reason, my local OP only had this game linked up once--like for the first couple of months or so. After that, it was in a two player cab.

The ggames not as fun with out the link cable.

Gauntlet hands down. It was the first dungeon I ever played, so it still holds a place in my heart...even though I always shot the food...wish I would've bought it when the owner offered it to me for 300 bucks lol

I think gozer5454 means the BIG MAN that throws the BOOMERANG-AXE.

I have no idea if the BIG MAN has a special ability or not.

But he does kinda look like a troll. :D

Yeah, I meant the Big Man. Sad that I keep forgetting the names of the little characters, especially because that is one of my all time favorite games.

If the player on the video you posted would have kept the Big Man instead of the chick, then in the tree just above the first gold bear enemy, the player would have been able to see a flickering, hidden treasure chest. Good stuff.

Dudes, another reason I love these two particular Jamma-era dungeon crawlers. Look at the freakin' artwork. That shit is badass right there. Hell even Magic Sword's sideart was trick looking.

Never considered Magic Sword to be any kind of sequel to Black Tiger (I've played them both lots, especially Black Tiger), there totally different games. And capcom used Zenny currency in more then just those 2 games, take Forgotten Worlds for example.

I never considered them related either. However, i'd wouldnt be surprised if I heard that the same programmers and designers were involved.

Yeah, those are cool CAPCOM cabs.

I kinda like the art on the ATARI GAUNTLET I / II cab.s too.

And the sound system sounds great--esp. for the G2 intro.

I really liked the color / player select feature that ATARI added to the G2 board. But, I liked running the G1 mazes are much better.

After playing the game sever years later, would have liked ATARI to have added a few extra characters to G2--just to mix things up a bit. But, I never really missed 'em BITD. :D

I agree 100% on gauntlet art. I was just looking at my buddy's G1 about 4 days ago saying "damn. That is just straight up awesome."

Everything about Gauntlet was great EXCEPT how it kind of goes no where gameplay wise. I remember seeing both G1 and G2 as a kid and thinking they were nuts.

I can not express how much of a fan of the original Gauntlet machines I was.

I played it at CAX and was like... man freeplay really messes this game up. What is worse is the reliance on idiots to fill out a 4P session. After that I scratched it from my wish list.

Even if it was token play in a home arcade I doubt I would play it much. There's not much skill other than patience and knowing the paterns on when to move. Other dungeon crawlers like D&D incorporate special moves which make them awesome.

To me King of Dragons is what Capcom pitched to TSR to get the D&D liscense.

Speaking of related games: CAPCOM did reuse stuff.

Hey, does anyone know if AURTHER ever went on a side quest, after GHOULS, or if the K.O.D crew took a second gig? :D

Yes and NO

Ultimate GnG in sorta a way. You have to understand a few things. Capcom teams are very mixed up. The art department had a pool of artist that would get assigned to games individually or as a team. The rest of them are often the same way. So people move around and stay on a francise so there was always a different story for each sequel.

Ultimate GnG was the last true Arthur verson but he showed up in MvC of course. There was also an instance where he showed up in Cannon Spike. Maximo was done by a US team but people often consider him to borrow a few things from Arthur... like the shorts but he's actually a bit more like Trojan or Black Tiger.

Yeah, you are right: free play kinda ruins GAUNTLET (a bit).

Part of the fun was having a limit amount of cash and testing how far you could get on it.

And, using the other players that were pumping and dumping quarters in the game as human shields. :D

I didn't mind the idiots--as long as they didn't shoot my food! :D

Ever see this D&D fan site: http://www.fantasyanime.com/valhalla/ddarcade.htm?

It has a short interview with one of CAPCOM USA's D&D: TOD developers--Alex "Raven" Jimenez.
