Im looking to see if any of my programmers will do GAL16V8, 20V8. I already know my willem GQ-4X wont do them. I also have a pocket programmer 3 which doesnt appear to do them either. My last programmer is a Data IO 29B with Unipak 2B. This one im not sure of.
I dont have an immediate need to program any but would like to be able to if ever needed. If the 29B wont do them does anyone have a suggestion for a programmer that will? PAL's would be a plus as well.

I currently use an Advin U84+. Quite easy to use, quite reliable but quite expensive.
I used to use a 29B with the unipak adapter. Worked ok but was awkward to use and not real peppy.

I also own an Xeltek Superpro 2000+... biggest piece of crap I ever purchased.

I'm using a TopMax, that's a bit overkill if you just want to program PAL/GALs ;)

I once had two different Xeltek's, Superpro I & II, as they were worthless crap. IIRC one popped a drive transistor in the first days the other couldn't actually program PROMs as it was supposed to. Sounds like quality is still their middle name.

Im just probing to see if there are any cheap programmers in the $100-$200 range that will do pal/gal's. Im thinking probably not but figured I would ask.
So the Unipak 2B will do them? I have mine running great on XP. Yeah its slow programming but I typically only use it for proms.

We use a Xeltek Superpro 580U here at work, it replaced the Willem we blew up. Nice programmer, actually. It'll do the GAL16V8 no problem.

I'll 2nd that. I hated my Xeltek and was glad the day that was gone. POS.

Like jrok I also use a topmax but is overkill. I just wish now I would have gotten the
USB one versus the parallel port one.

It looks like the 29B with the correct version of software and the LogicPak (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Data_IO_29B_LogicPak.jpg) and the correct adapter can program these.

I know I have a (or more than one) LogicPak and some adapters. No idea if they are functional. You are welcome to them.

I have never seen Topmax programmers before.
I like the Advin that I use at work but I need a reliable and -affordable- programmer at home.
Checked into that Topmax but it is now obsolete. The replacements - Topmax 2 and Chipmax 2 look pretty nice. I may need to look into those two a little better. I need a programmer that can do old Lattice GAL6001's -- it appears these will do them. My POC Xeltek 2000+ also says it programs GAL6001's... nah, the software bombs everytime you try.
Anybody want to buy a Xeltek? It's guaranteed to look nice on your desk. Won't do anything but sure looks nice.

Definitely post back if you try it... that'd be way better than messing w/ building a Parallel Port adapter by hand.

Yeah, let us know. I have been eyeballing it for a while.

I use a TOP2007... think I paid less than $100, uses USB only and works great for most GAL/PAL chips

I will probably pick up a TOP853 in a few weeks.
Jason, is the TOP2007 a better model? I see it cost a little more.

+1 on TopMax... that thing ROCKS... but cost me $500 + tax on closeout at Fry's.

However, I bought me a spare, NIB, off of eBay and it was about $180 shipped. :)

Maybe you can get lucky.
