After 2 years of slowing getting it up to speed, my Qbert is now functioning 100% - thanks to the great repair guys on KLOV.

So now that it's working properly I have been playing it on and off in anticipation of putting some effort into getting much better at this game. Last night I managed to break 50,000, which was about 20,000 more than I have ever scored on this game. It's a start...

What are your high scores on this game and what kind of strategies do you use?

It's an easy game. You'll learn that after a couple of months. You'll end up turning the game off before you run out of men.

It's why those Q*bert marathon games are far from impressive when it comes to skill. You earn so many men that it just becomes about stamina in not being bored to death.

The tournament high scores are the real signs of skill.

If you're bored with Q*Bert, try FHMC Q*Bert. Much more challenging!

I'll join in the fun after I get mine all fixed up. Hopefully soon!

I believe I top out around 150,000 but I just play the game and have not delved into the real strategy of how to play though.

I had no idea that the game was easy enough that you can play indefinitely. I am not sure my game playing skills could accomplish that but I guess I'll find out. I have the Qbert multi-game so if/when I get bored with the regular version I will play the FHMC version.

I never played much Qbert back in the glory days. I didn't find it all that interesting, and I actually thought the game was too hard. Of course those were also the days when I had only a few dollars to spend each time I went to the arcade, so I usually played each game once or maybe twice during a visit. The idea of standing at one machine and dumping in token after token in order to master a game never occurred to me.

My wife got close to 10 million a few years back, before the game locked up. She said the same thing about wanting to play under the tournament style rules instead of marathon.

When you repeat L9 ad infinitum, there are events that get triggered through each screen. Make a small pyramid on the bottom left, sam/slick comes out, catch him or let him change shit as you make your way across the bottom, get coily, clean board, sam and slick re-enter, get coily, etc. I forget the exact sequence but it becomes auto-pilot after awhile.
