What are these called?

Yeah, they're there to prevent bangbacks and death saves. Funny enough, Jurassic Park has a special DMD animation if you successfully perform one. It's pretty neat.

I am a pinignorant... what is a "bangback"?

When the ball drains via the outlanes (not down the middle), you can lift a flipper and smack the game on the front of the cabinet just below the lockbar. You have to give it a pretty good thumping, but the hit can send the ball back up into play between the flippers. Most tournaments make them illegal and it's considered pretty rude to do it if you're playing on location or on someone else's game.

Bangbacks are easier than death saves. Death saves come down the right outlane and you have to kick the leg of the machine. Bangbacks come down the left outlane and it just takes a good punch with an open hand.

Thanks for the info!!! Then it is likely I will never ever need these as Matt has suggested.

If you do install them buy the correct parts, don't enlarge the holes in the playfield to install your own

No worries... making things fit is not my style ;)

I've looked around for them and the problem is I can't find a part number in the JP manual for those specific wire forms. The closest I can find are on the DE Simpsons which is #535-5373-01. I'm not sure if these are a drop in replacement. If they aren't ... it ain't happening, its just not that critical.

A previous owner also put a post in between the flippers (YUCK!) so that will be coming out and there will be a hole in the play field that will need repair because of it.

Other than that my new JP pin is in damned near perfect shape.

Post the measurement between the holes, I parted an Earthshaker a while back and you can have the wires for free if I have them (And if they are the correct length)

If the right diameter hanger is found , drilling bigger holes will not be needed.

I have video of a Stern employee calling them "Biff Bars". Now maybe that's just because Stern (DE) made Back to the Future...
